If they have AirDrop enabled, you'd be able to see them if you (for example) open a photo and send it via AirDrop.
It's not a passive thing, though.

The mall arguably killed downtown shopping, though. And makes it much harder for downtown to revive, like other downtowns are.

Also, the sun is lower in the sky during winter, and sidelighting tends to look “crisper” than overhead lighting (like noon in summer).
