"If I were the City of Providence, I would ask myself why this family has [potentially] been able to make millions and millions of dollars using city facilities and a city office, and the City of Providence hasn't received a dime." (City Council spokesman Parker Gavigan confirmed that the city receives no revenue from "Caught in Providence," according to the city finance department.”

Um. Why aren’t the PEOPLE who are in court, the subjects of the show, the entire reason the show can exist- why aren’t THEY entitled to compensation???

Posted this as a comment to another reply but here’s a quick list of soul/funk stuff: There are spots that do funk/soul/disco all over.

Red Door: Disco Sour once a month on Saturdays. They also have Nick Bishop DJ sometimes and he’s got a sound that gets real retro. https://www.instagram.com/p/Cm9S22LrBWM/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=

Discotech at The Parlour: a mix of soul/funk/house. https://instagram.com/discotech_pvd?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=

Askew: Live Funk on Thursday (The Autocrats) and a Disco night every Wednesday https://www.instagram.com/p/Cm4HYsHLJNo/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=

Dusk: Soul Power every second Saturday https://www.instagram.com/p/ClY8P_3LED7/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=

You’re very best bet will be to follow @pvdgcal for other events happening too. There are lots and lots of different dance nights in the city almost nightly.

If you still have your existing eye rx and you know for sure your eyes haven’t changed, you can give one of the online retailers like Zenni a try. I’ve gotten glasses for as little as $20 out of pocket, which I understand is still a bit much when you’re trying to make ends meet. But it’s better than the outrageous markup you’ll see in the eye doctor showrooms.

How are you getting to the train station? If you’re driving, you’ll be able to park at the PPM lot on Hayes St and walk over. There’s a parking lot closer to the train station but it feels up quickly.

If you’re biking, the train station is where everyone gets their bike stolen so either bring it with you (if you’re not on peak commuter hours) or lock it down Fort Knox style.

Some booths have outlets for chargers so you can get some work done. You’ll probably loose signal somewhere around Sharon though.

Rush hour is a lot. Train fills up fast on the BOS > PVD route.

I comment this every time a post like this comes up but @pvdgcal on Instagram updates their story daily. There’s always something interesting going on in our little city.

If you check it frequently, you’ll start to see calendars that venues put out with all sorts of music and art events and you can add those reoccurring or once-off events to your own calendar.

Driving is your best bet unless you want to miss the end of your show. I had to leave a concert early for my fave musician who was in the middle of the sickest encore I’ve ever (almost) seen. That or get a hotel and come back in the morning. It’s a major bummer and a thorn in my concert-loving side that the train doesn’t run later.
