Honestly the ordinance is written more to prevent people from owning chickens without actually banning them.

To actually own a chicken and have it be "happy" you'll want for 1 chicken per about 100 square feet of free roaming space. Then have a ratio of 1.5chickens per 100sqft. You'll also want to have them free roam in dirt or grass or actual natural flooring as it allows them to forage. Chicken coops are simply a nesting/sleeping space, nothing crazy. Some milk crates in a corner with a roof and some branches Up top to let them perch and sleep. You'll want to cut the flight feathers off to prevent them from flying away, but after a few months of feeding and providing space nesting they will always come back after a while. You can play and socialize with them enough where they will recognize you and return affection. Some people do keep chickens and hens as pets with diapers indoors too.

Biggest thing especially in the city is keeping predators away. Rats, cats, possums, raccoons all will get Into your backyard and have a feast. And with how cheap chick's are or used to be, people can carelessly keep buying more and keep feeding the rats basically.

There's a pretty sharp divide now between the city and the surrounding schools. Back when I went in the early 2000s schools were pretty racially diverse and Inclusove to all. Field trips, lots of honors students, school events, sports etc.

I have younger relatives in it now. From what I've heard from them it's pretty shitty, even for someone like me an hispanic who is part of the shitty part of providence according to some here on this reddit. There are no field trips or extra curriculum activities even since before covid. Many schools dont let you take books home, either text books or reading books. Classroom vibe is a mess with too many wannabe "bad/hood" kids. Teachers no longer care. Big population of foreign born/ migrants that bully the US born kids

I would say unless you need some good aftercare options k and elementary school will be good in that regard. Or if you want your kid to attend classical, it still retains alot of that old schooling on top of being progressive and still the top school in RI.

You need a min 800sqft fenced in area with a chicken coop for a maximum of 6 chickens, absolutely no roosters.

The shitty parts of providence doesn't have Karen's like the good parts, so you won't have animal control called on you, so you can have more and have a smaller keep, living in the shitty parts of providence also let's you have roosters. You could even play music outside for them.

And what's crazy is that most of the litter you see scattered around our roads and highways is from poor waste management.

From the city not replacing broken bins, dumpsters with no cover and trash trucks either overfilled or with broken load tarps.

Attleboro has more like 300. The Verizon lot and beyond are all commercial properties.

Also it's designed to serve the pawtucket/centrallfalls/Blackstone valley communities which is small. They're also making it a ripta hub so you should see some better bus routes in the area providing easier/better access. I'm sure they did some surveying and determined that they didn't need to provide much parking.

Ok define city. Warwick and west Warwick are both in Kent and have comparable neighborhoods to providence? They both fall under providence's metro area so you could argue they're part of the city.

In general the areas to avoid would be the Olneyville/Manton/Atwells triangle. The areas around Charles, Douglas, branch, and lower part of Smith st. And the Lower south providence and Elmwood neighborhoods. Also the Upper cranston st area. Definitely avoid the areas around public housing. There are some nice parts of these especially in the Elmwood Lower south side so don't completely take them out of consideration. Olneyville is slowly being gentrified too.

The "good" areas are most of the east side, the west end, immediate dexter training ground areas and federal hill neighborhoods, upper Smith st along with the Elmhurst and Mt Pleasant neighborhoods along the north providence line. Silver lake and Washington park are ok.

I don't know what kind of crime filled city your gf thinks providence is but it's no where near comparable to parts of Philly, Bronx, Chicago, etc. No you won't get randomly stabbed, shot, kidnapped etc. Avoid problems and they'll avoid you. There's also crime hotspots even in the good neighborhoods, fox point iirc has the highest share of break-ins of all providence.

And since you work in the east side you should consider either Pawtucket and especially east providence. Easily take the Hendrickson bridge over and rent is alot cheaper too. EP as a whole is pretty nice

Actually lead pipes are safer than most other options. The lead coating in the pipes keeps contaminants from the pipe itself from leeching into the pipe. Lead is also highly resilent from water errosion. The danger comes from disturbing the pipes either from natural cuases or people physically disturbing the pipes. The lead coating is frail and can easily break off. This exposes the actual pipe and introduces the contaminants you regularly see in tap water.

So single one time testing isn't a good indicator for lead contamination. You would have to test regularly to get a proper glimpse of what's going on with your water.

Our water source is some of the best in the country, Scituate reservoir. Problem is that providence is one of the oldest cities in the union so we also have alot of old pipes even though they still function. Now include all those deposits from old pipes with the added govt mandated chlorine you get nasty tap water.

Best bet is to get a filter. Either a jug or a filter directly on the faucet. You could also install a more permanent setup under the faucet.
