Heroes had a reboot in 2015. It wasn’t good unfortunately.

Limitless for me. A concept that could easily be used with a new cast and would be far better now in a tight 10 episode format on a streaming service where it can be grittier and without all the crime of the week filler.

While I'd love to see a Heroes reboot that wasn't turned into a dumpster fire behind the scenes by a writers' strike, I also don't want to see much recasting. Masi Oka as Hiro (with his curiosity and wonder), Jack Coleman as HRG/Noah (as a dad exposed to a world that he wants to protect his daughter from), Kristen Bell as Elle Bishop (as batshit insane), Cristine Rose as Angela Petrelli (with a demanding presence despite no actual violence).

As bad as the writing became, a good portion of the casting was just phenomenal.

yeah, i loved the original cast so much that it's hard to imagine any recasting that can measure up. (which would be inevitable, because i doubt every single actor would be available for a reboot). and even if the newer actors do a good job, they'll never be as beloved as the original crew by fans.

but an animation could work, as voice actors would face less comparisons.

Honestly the CGI are fine. I watch older stuff and i'm not too into modern shows so you likely have a higher bar though. I think Fringe could have used with a less JJ-esque narrative, the latter season(s) are a bit all over the place compared to earlier ones, same as Lost.

The X-Files, but somehow without Chris Carter having more than a cursory influence.

There's still room for the sci-fi/conspiracy/horror government agency show. Fringe tried to do its own thing, and that would be a good reboot too, but I just prefer the more mysterious X-Files.

They can reboot with fresh agents, tie in something new like the UAP task force as a competing more bureaucratic agency, even redo plots or monsters from the original show. I'd watch. Just less Chris Carter revisionist changing his mind plot nonsense.

8

StarChild413 t1_j20kybu wrote

but the problem I see (not saying that would make an X-Files reboot impossible, it's just it's something it'd have to overcome) is you'd have to overcome how politicized a lot of conspiracy-theorist stuff has become as if the big sci-fi conspiracy metaplot stayed at least the same as how the OG X-Files one was initially set up to be you could theoretically see (although not at the same time) both sides as right-wing depending on your point of view with the conspirators for obvious reasons (as making any of those characters non-white and/or non-male would be seen as unrealistic by some given their positions) and if the aforementioned fresh agents fit the same archetypes I could see whoever's the "new Mulder" accidentally becoming something of a hero within the irl QAnon community (if that movement isn't nipped in the bud before this is made) because as they'd be fighting the government and investigating conspiracies they'd be seen as fighting for what those people believe in

Each episode they find themselves in an alternate reality and they’re just trying to find their way back to their own reality. They had some interesting episodes, like one where the whole world was quarantined cuz of some Illness and restaurants served food that was prepackaged. I'd love to see a reboot of Andromeda. It had a great premise, and some really smart/funny episodes early on, but the production values were cheap as hell and the show got hijacked about 1.5 seasons in by Kevin Sorbo's ego. It would be great to see a modern version that kept the interesting setting, got some money for decent effects, and actually followed a coherent story instead of turning into Space Hercules.

I think a reboot of the Flames of Recca anime like Shaman King would be cool to see. Especially if they adapt the final arcs of the series.

For a live action show, I guess maybe Shadowhunters but it’s more a bit more accurate to the books or maybe adapt different series from the Shadowhunters chronicles

A remake for the first 5 seasons of Supernatural would be good as well but not right now. Maybe in 2030 or something.

I wouldn't mind seeing a new take on something that didn't do well but had an interesting premise. I always thought Small Wonder was an odd choice for a sitcom but would make a crazy Westworld style drama. It's about a family that adopts a little girl that is secretly a robot. I think it would be interesting if the robot was created in response to the death of a child that the father has to cover up because he killed her and is trying to keep the secret from everyone including Vicki the robot. Something like that, but not necessarily that could be good.

Edit: The big twist would be that the Dad didn't kill Vicki. He made a robot that was identical to his daughter in every way in order to show investors and get them to guess which one was real and robot Vicki killed real Vicki. It could work.
