I love Isaac Arthur
I'm gonna check out Event Horizon, Koranos, Curious Reason & exa cognition, I haven't heard of any of them.
Sadly Isaac Arthurs' wife is a effectively a holocaust apologist and is
campaigning against good teaching practices as an elected
official in Ohio, so I stopped watching his channel. Just FYI.
Yeah, it's unfortunate she's pushing those views outside of the channel, but Isaac's channel is still a goldmine of interesting futurist content. It's understandable if someone wants to avoid the channel for that reason though.
Regarding the others I mentioned, Event Horizon is a podcast with John Michael Godier, a sci-fi author who interviews scientists and others with a passion for tech and futurism.
Koranos is an animated educational channel with a lot of science and scifi content quite similar to Kurzgesagt in presentation and topics.
Curious Reason is a smaller channel that covers technology and space along with geography and economics.
Exa Cognition focuses mainly on tech and doesn't have a lot of videos, but they're all highly polished and cover some interesting topics with a lot of depth (Their series on vertical farming is excellent).
> Yeah, it's unfortunate she's pushing those views outside of the channel,
yeah :( I couldn't believe it at first, I thought it must be some stirred up controversy so I went and actually watched the video, far from the most horrendous thing I've heard but just ignorant, awful and unapologetic about it. A huge shame IMO.
> but Isaac's channel is still a goldmine of interesting futurist
content.
Yeah incredible content, I watched every video on the channel, some multiple times, before all the BS went down.
> It's understandable if someone wants to avoid the channel for
that reason though.
Indeed, I'm not gonna harass people about it just think they oughta know.
I think I had actually bumped into Event Horizon before but the others are totally new to me. Thanks again for the pointers!
>yeah :( I couldn't believe it at first, I thought it must be some stirred up controversy so I went and actually watched the video, far from the most horrendous thing I've heard but just ignorant, awful and unapologetic about it. A huge shame IMO.
What video??
This interview: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sIcYdNF_qUo
> “What we do not want is for someone to come in and say, ‘Well, obviously, the German government was right in saying that an Aryan race is superior to all other races, and therefore they were acting rightly when they murdered hundreds of thousands of people for having a different color of skin,’” Fowler Arthur said. “We believe that that is anti-American, and that it goes against everything that America stands for.
First... She demonstrates a massive lack of historical understanding: The Nazis genocided (in cold blood) at least 6 million Jews and many million other minorities, Polish people, Czechs, and other Eastern Europeans. Then she never corrects her statement when she's called out for this inaccuracy.
Second, Jews weren't murdered for having a different skin color, they were murdered because Hitler was an evil insane anti-semite who over time turned Germany into a genocide machine.
> “And so we want to be clear that yes, you should talk about these atrocities that have happened in history, but you also do have an obligation to point out the value that each individual brings to the table,” Fowler Arthur said. “And to encourage students to think of their peers with respect and courtesy, and appreciate them for who they are.”
This is classic Nazi apologism. First you say something kinda tame like this. If they get no push back then the person says something like "Oh yeah and how about Rommel? What a brilliant general, he wasn't really involved in the concentration camps you know." If they don't get push back they follow it up with something like: "You know that most Germans didn't know about the concentration camps right?". If that doesn't get push back they might follow up with "If someone had just stopped Hitler it wouldn't have happened, it's all his fault you know. But he was right that Germany needed more land."
And now all WWII is solely Hitler's fault somehow.
> so I stopped watching his channel.
why? its not his wife channel or is she making a content for it too?
She was in a lot of his Q&A videos and she benefits financially from money he makes via ads or Patreon, given that they're married.
OP doesn't want to give views and ad revenue to a creator who is effectively co-signing activities and rhetoric they find harmful.
That's devastating. I had no idea. How can he abide something like that?
yeah :( It's really quite sad, I was an avid fan of his content and watched all his vids.
He seems like such a smart guy. I don't really understand how he can be so ahistorical and I don't understand how she can fail to grasp the Holocaust.
> How can he abide something like that?
I don't know, it's mind boggling. He was an election overseer in Ohio so I think perhaps he imagines that as long as he just remains totally neutral by not commenting it's "okay".
Of course, to each their own, he has great content and I'm not gonna harass people who watch his stuff but it's something to keep in mind if you do view his stuff.
I'm... Going to have to think about this. I don't know if doing nothing is an acceptable response.
I like your approach though. To inform without judging. It's very respectful.
She also did eventually post a "clarification" on facebook.
Here's my opinion on the situation:
She did eventually post a pseudo-apology:
This is upsetting information, I really like SFIA
I really like the content too and Isaac & Sarah seem like pretty nice people so it's definitely surprising to me. Given the scope of her comments it's certainly possible she just bungled the interview, didn't understand why her comments were offensive, became embarrassed and refused to apologize. That's its own problem though it shows a lack of understanding which is pretty concerning for someone writing legislation on teaching, especially legislation impacting how the holocaust is taught.
She also did eventually post a "clarification" on facebook. IDK, why do people gotta do stupid shit like this? Anyways I think everyone can make their own call on this but if you do choose to watch his stuff keep it in mind.
Here's my opinion on the situation:
She did eventually post a pseudo-apology:

This is a perfect example of exactly the wrong way to approach just about anything.
Kurzgesagt is very biased . I feel terrible to know that but 😟 . You can search it up on Google
"Very biased" is a "very stupid" way to say they sometimes use some slightly subjective but very benign writing to explain scientific theory. Calling them "very biased" to put them in the same realm as political propagandists is obvious asshattery.
They said humans are greedy and expansionist so we might expect these traits in alien civilizations. Stop the presses.
The whole thing reeks of fake outrage to stop Kurzgesagt from being shown in schools because science is wokeism or some nonsense.
Here watch this https://youtu.be/HjHMoNGqQTI I was unable to frame my sentence coz i am not very good at English
I watched your video. Pretty weak. I'll give them that their first entry of Kurzgesagt, all the way back in 2016, calling big pharma our lord and savior was an obvious bought plug. I actually went back and watched the original video and it's clearly a fluff piece. But the rest of it is straw grasping conspiracy theory to suggest that anything Bill Gates or his billionaire pals touches is obviously tainted. Oh, and the completely unrelated to the video connection between Epstein and Gates was the cherry on the top.
The crux of the entire argument seems to revolve around "They're promoting tech and research that billionaires stand to benefit from."
No. Shit.
Billionaires are literally in the business of investing in potential growth sectors. And if you haven't noticed, the biggest growth sectors of the 21st century are environmental, energy, and tech.
Give this a read. Anyone can cherry pick data to ruin someone's reputation.
I really enjoy Isaac because he covers nearly every aspect of the particular topic and doesn't shy away from talking about both the extreme positives and extreme negatives of a particular scenario. I don't particularly agree with him socially, his wife is his wife and already spoken about on this thread and some of his crossovers are with.... interesting people. Sucks because I've yet to see anyone else have an in depth talk about possible geopolitical futures off Earth outside of his crossover with Whatifalthist.
Scott Manley is really good for space exploration and real world rocketry and space infrastructure advancements.
Simon Whistler's Megaprojects when they touch on near future developments speaking very well on some more near term missions.
And while not a YouTuber, The Economist puts out a weekly podcast on technology called Babbage who often puts out some incredible pieces be it on AI or their most recent episode speaking on the current private race to the Moon and possible commercial developments as well as who actually owns it.
I love Scott Manley, I'm big on the all the space stuff, and he's definitely the go-to for up to date information on the field of space
>some of his crossovers are with.... interesting people.
What people?
Whatifalthist who went from a questionable Alt Hist YouTuber into someone who thinks Jordan Peterson is a moderate and the future ideologue of majority of western men
Ah yes, whatifalt history certainly took a turn, I was aware of his right-wing biases, but his video on dating was the straw that broke the camel's back for me, I had issues with it on different levels, from it not being part of the channel to whom he was attributing the blame too, the Marxist boogeyman.
I noticed that he tends to make sweeping generalizations about vast, diverse communities like Indian and Chinese people which strikes me as kinda racist and reflective of a lack of basic understanding of the regions he is commenting on
As a Canadian his future projections for Canada were hilariously dumb so I imagine his stuff about other regions sounds very uninformed as well to people who live there

Sadly Isaac Arthurs' wife is a effectively a holocaust apologist and is campaigning to block good teaching practices as an elected official in Ohio, so I stopped watching his channel.

Fair enough, that's your call to make. I think his content is great I just couldn't keep listening but that's just a personal choice.
What is a holocaust apologists? Did she get canceled ?
> What is a holocaust apologists
Someone who believes that what was done by individual Nazis (or Nazi aligned people) or Nazis as a whole during the Holocaust is not as bad as the historical record shows.
Sometimes this is because they're antisemitic, sometimes it's because they are white nationalists, sometimes they're just ignorant and uneducated, sometimes it's a different reason.
> antisemitism - hostility toward or discrimination against Jews as a religious, ethnic, or racial group
m-w.com
> Did she get canceled
She got some bad press and push back but she's still an elected official of Ohio. Go ask her constituents I guess.
John Michael Godier does some pretty interesting chats on his spin off channel
Also some of Sciencephile the AI's stuff
Edit again - and Fraser Cain
Kurzgesagt is pretty good. They do a good job of simplifying topics for the layman. Animation style is cool as well.
Although, you have to be careful of which videos you watch, some of it is propaganda. Despite claiming to be independently funded they actually take a lot of money from groups like the bill and Melinda gates foundation to make videos.
They made a response to The Hated One's video Link: https://www.reddit.com/r/kurzgesagt/comments/10jlyyk/kurzgesagt_statement_to_the_conflict_of_interest/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button
Gonna check out event and isaac. Kurzgesaagt is obviously amazing
John M Godier and his Event Horizon are really good
Two minutes paper
Two Minute Papers. His videos are soley based on technology and AI/graphics advancements, but it's incredible to see the progress.
Two minute papers
Isaac Arthur is the only one I watch on the daily at this point. Kurzgesagt is meh, Koranos hasn’t drop much so far. John Michael Godier isn’t bad either.
Isaac Arthur definitely

came here to say isaac
I like Andrewism (St. Andrewism) a lot.
Just have a think
Just an FYI but Isaac Arthurs' wife appears to be a holocaust apologist and is campaigning against good teaching practices as an elected official in Ohio.
I chose to stop watching his channel but of course to each their own.
> "You should talk about these atrocities that have happened in history, but you also do have an obligation to point out the value that each individual brings to the table," Fowler Arthur said.
I’m sorry, what?
I listened to the video where Sarah Arthur is speaking to an interviewer. Is that everything or is there more to this?
Her point seems to have been about reading the perspectives of everybody involved, including the individuals committing the atrocities. Specifically, she mentioned reading the perspectives of a Polish person sent to a camp, a Jewish person also sent to a camp, and a German soldier. I don’t know if that kind of thing is appropriate for a teenager to read, but there’s definitely value in reading about what the bad guys where thinking and getting a thorough understanding of how and why an atrocity like this happened.
I’ll grant you that referring to Holocaust victims in the “hundreds of thousands” rather than millions was really sketchy, but given how hard she was stumbling on her words, I didn’t interpret that as an anti-Semitic dog whistle.
There’s more to this story, right?
You're free to interpret what she said according to your own understanding of things but here's my perspective:
Direct quote:
> “What we do not want is for someone to come in and say, ‘Well, obviously, the German government was right in saying that an Aryan race is superior to all other races, and therefore they were acting rightly when they murdered hundreds of thousands of people for having a different color of skin,’” Fowler Arthur said. “We believe that that is anti-American, and that it goes against everything that America stands for.First...
She demonstrates a massive lack of historical understanding: The Nazis genocided (in cold blood) at least 6 million Jews and many million other minorities, Polish people, Czechs, and other Eastern Europeans. Then she never corrects her statement when she's called out for this inaccuracy. This conversation is occurring in the context of this woman writing and cosponsoring legislation which directly impacts how the holocaust is taught in schools.

But he was right that Germany needed more land."And now all WWII is solely Hitler's fault somehow.
For reference of others who didn't watch the interview:
Being wrong about what Judaism is or how many people died in the Holocaust doesn’t make somebody a Nazi apologist.
Does it make them unfit to speak on that subject? Yes. Does this mean that they’re part of some Neo-Nazi shadow conspiracy to corrupt America’s youth? No it doesn’t.
You sound like you’re some chronically online guy who has nothing better to do than spam a totally unrelated subreddit about how a politician you don’t like is secretly a Nazi.
> Being wrong about what Judaism is or how many people died in the Holocaust doesn’t make somebody a Nazi apologist.
I agree. However refusing to correct the record after you're called out and instead saying some mealy mouthed BS does make you one.
> “I want to apologize for the unconscionable position that has been wrongfully attributed to me, a position that I personally find abhorrent," Fowler Arthur said. "These views are not who I am or what I believe. Period."
This is basically saying "I did nothing wrong".
However she did later correct the record but not with the actual news station or news articles, just on her facebook page:
> Just to be clear: The Nazis were evil. They murdered millions of Jews. They murdered millions of other people too, which included thousands of people of different races, many of which were German citizens of African Descent, as I mentioned in my comments.
This is a lot better than nothing but she needs to make an actual official statement, not just a facebook post. This isn't table stakes, she's an elected government official.
> Does it make them unfit to speak on that subject? Yes. Does this mean that they’re part of some Neo-Nazi shadow conspiracy to corrupt America’s youth? No it doesn’t.
Bear in mind this woman said these things in the course of campaigning to pass legislation in Ohio governing how educators discuss the Holocaust...
> You sound like you’re some chronically online guy who has nothing better to do than spam a totally unrelated subreddit about how a politician you don’t like is secretly a Nazi.
I guess that's just like... your opinion man.
From the first article and the video, it seems to be much ado about nothing.
Their counter-example shows the problem:
> "German soldiers, or the Nazis," Pasch clarified. "Would she feel the same way about, like 9/11? Does she want the perspective of the hijackers who flew the planes into buildings? No, because there's moral absolutes, right? And so there aren't two sides to every historical event."
Actually you probably do want to know the perspective of terrorists, if only to know how to prevent repeat incidents.
There's a way to do this properly and then there's Nazi apologism. Sarah Arthur Fowler appears to be engaging in pretty direct, uneducated and ignorant Nazi apologism.

I cant say what she meant by you may be overinterpreting.
Those articles are a mess of ads and text. I can’t even find what we’re supposed to find. What is your quote supposed to mean ? The value of each individuals ?

> “I’ve been personally listening to some audiobooks on the Holocaust lately, and maybe you’re going to listen to the perspective of someone from Poland when they were undergoing similar displacement, or when they were being incorporated into the war, into some of these camps, or maybe you’re listening to it from the perspective of a Jewish person that has gone through the tragedies that took place,” Fowler Arthur said. “And maybe you listen to it from the perspective of a German soldier, then you take all those things and you’re asked to write a paper on what happened.”
This is even more direct Nazi apologism.

Commenting so I can come back to this later. Ive been especially looking for YouTubers who make futurecasting content about social/sociological trends
John Richardson and The Futurenauts
Issac Arthur
John Michael godier is my fav
John Michael Godier’s personal channel and his other channel Event Horizon. Very abstract concepts and interesting to think about.
Second thought
I'm really surprised no one has mentioned Freethink yet. It's futurism with a heavy dose of capitalism to be fair, you can definitely feel there's a sponcon undercurrent of some kind. However, they do really interesting near future highlights for things already in progress that inspires me. Definitely not perfect, but they've sent me down some really interesting rabbit holes on prosthetics and stuff.
I dont watch any of them because the way they talk about the future most of us on here want is 100 years away or more.

Are these futurists ?
These are some of the most influential Gen Z YouTubers out there right now and how they're changing the world.
