Drugs, corruption, waspy neighbors, airbnb guests acting like assholes, are all not unheard of. Im sure there's a few that arent too bad but you can get a much cheaper property the further north you go especially in Wayne County. Less obnoxious tourists and more nature. Pike also isnt too bad.
spicynuggies t1_j3ntojx wrote
I wouldnt touch a listing in a hoa with a 10 ft pole, but the Poconos is especially bad and barelyfunctional.
Not worth the charges . Get a vacation home out in the middle if the woods or near a trail instead of in a development.

U.S. news is a pretty bad metric to go by. Niche has reviews tho which id look at
But all reviews have an inherent bias in that people are more likely to leave a review if they had a bad experience

Honesdale and Bloomsburg are nice if you dont mind a rural small town atmosphere. Very charming laid back, and generally quiet towns that still have local events, parks, and biking trails.
I would suggest looking in Scranton, Hawley, Forest City, Factoryville, and Pittston also.
Pittston and Scranton are more urbanized and have larger downtowns and more young people, though the traffic has been getting worse. The others are small rural towns but still walkable with main streets and a handful of shops and businesses.
Stroudsburg and Jim Thorpe are pretty nice but a bit touristy. Good luck, and also prepare yourself for winter because NEPA is gloomy, cold, gray this time of year. Make sure to get some vitamin D.

Oh please.
Shippensburg is like 30 minutes from Harrisburg and its suburbs and Millersville is like 10 mins outside Lancaster
Wait til you hear about Bloomsburg, Indiana, Mansfield, Clarion, and Lock Haven.

Probably because they don't have much international presence, which is a common theme with all of these.
Also being an online business helps

Avoid anywhere West of the Susquehanna that isnt State College or Pittsburgh.
People tend to mind their own business for the most part in PA, even in more conservative areas. Ive gone out plenty of times with my same sex partner and never felt unsafe, but I know transphobia is generally much more rampant for the most part.
Pretty much any of the cities in PA should be fine save for maybe Altoona/Johnstown. The Poconos are usually full of tourists and NY/NJ transplants so I doubt there would be any trouble there either.
