Rebuild with better building codes. It will be more expensive, but that city was located where it was for a reason. It will get rebuilt.

You honestly think they spent $52 billion on AR? Their official plan is to get rid of their cash pile through stock buy backs an dividends. Sorry no mystery here

I really tried to like Knives Out. I liked the idea and I’m a fan of the actors. It felt “under-directed”. The acting was underwhelming. I thought the accent of the detective was cringeworthy. I understand that this is a minority point of view.

Unfortunately the whole “industrial scale creation of fuel and materials” on the moon is a fantasy. Not that it is impossible, but that it isn’t being developed now. We need have at-scale test articles begin developed today. We need to see a solar powered electrolysis plant in operation today that can generate fuel in the same way it will be done on the moon. Lab experiments don’t cut it, engineering needs to be done. If NASA were serious about it they would be building this infrastructure right now. I think that the current funding scheme limits the agency’s ability to confidently invest beyond just the minimal next step to get to the moon.

Give it some truly deep thought about the implications “implementing this in a very short time”. Think about how deeply ingrained access to high energy density fossil fuels are in every aspect of civilization. We must and the we will make the transition off of fossil fuels, however it won’t be in a very short time. No battery in existence comes close to the energy density of fossil fuel. Entire industries will need to be reimagined. Culture will be changed. We won’t be hopping on jets to visit grandma any more. We’ll be taking trains. We need to push on making the transition as quickly as we can, but don’t kid yourself on how fast it will be done. The NYT article is very balanced and realistic. It isn’t doom and gloom. This world will change.

Reply to Asimov's Foundation Is Bad Literature by Kryptin
Literature. What a loaded term that can mean whatever you want it to mean. Foundation is about imagination and ideas. Fiction doesn’t have to be character driven to be great. Asimov had some of the greatest ideas in Science Fiction.
