Peter Schilling is a synth-pop guy who had a massive world-wide hit in 1982 with a song called "Major Tom (Coming Home)" which lyrically owed a fair bit to Bowie's "Space Odyssey". It was huge here in Canada, as was the album Error in the System. The song was a hit in the U.S. as well, hitting #14.

I thought the album as a whole was outstanding, and it's follow-up "Things to Come", but on the latter point I appear to be the only person in North America who had that opinion. I'm not sure that anyone other than myself actually bought a copy....+

In the U.S., The Tragically Hip are a band that is probably considered a no-hit wonder. They had a couple of songs chart on the Mainstream Rock charts, but they are a truly legendary band here in Canada. Songs like "Ahead by a Century", "Bobcaygeon", "New Orleans is Sinking", "Little Bones" and many more have been staples of Canadian rock radio for decades. Look them up on Youtube and give them a listen.

A “hit” is objective but also relative. For some artists & genres, just making the Hot 100 is a hit, while for others, peaking at #35 is a flop.

But there’s no subjectivity to it. It’s about numbers, what a group of people like, not just one person’s opinion.

There's a version of "O Come All Ye Faithful" done by a folk musician named Kevin Connolly in the mid 1990's for an album called "Snow Angels". The music is nothing like what you might have heard in church. It isn't really Alt, it's just super cool.

You can likely find it if you use a file sharing service. It isn't on youtube.

Yeah, I did, but it wasn’t music.

I was a pretty big hockey fan, particularly of my hometown team the Vancouver Canucks.

In 2011 (I think) they made the Stanley Cup final against the Boston Bruins. It went to game seven, and we lost, and after that there was a riot. Lots of fires in the downtown core, businesses big and small were burned and looted. It was horrible. You could see the smoke from many miles away.

Other than a couple of games during the Olympics, I haven’t watched a hockey game since.

Metallica comes immediately to mind because of the Napster debacle. (You might have to look that one up if you're under 30.)

A few years ago, the producer of the Adam Carolla Podcast told a story, on the podcast, about going to a party at the house of one of the main guys in the band. In the course of showing off his home, said band member took the guests to see his movie collection - which were all pirated copies.
