There's also genuine interest in where you're from, at least from some people.

It was! The Airbnb owners were a young engaged couple, I was their second guest ever. I had a birthday while I was there and they made me a cake. It was a really special trip and even though I was a bit disappointed at first to be so far from all the sights it kind of made it a bit special.

My first trip to Rome I stayed at an Airbnb a bit away from the main attractions. Being a tourist in that part of town was a bit of a novelty - the locals were genuinely (mildly) surprised. It was nice to be away from the bustle of those main areas too.

Well in Victoria, which was the centre of the gold rush, there's still at much gold in the ground as was removed over the past 130 years.

I'm Australian and I thought maybe it was somehow associated with the sport until I was about 16 and a Canadian girl explained the bit about boxing presents. In my defense, very few people box up presents here.

The film is used in some introductory script writing courses and it's not hard to see why

My brother was bitten by a sea snake in the Torres Strait. When he rang the air ambulance, they asked him if it was white with black stripes or black with white stripes and the difference was that he'd likely be ok or he would quite possibly die before he could be evacuated.

I went to school with a girl that liked to tell her boyfriends - she had several - that she was raped. She did it to see their reaction. She'd pick someone at random that the boyfriend didn't know so he'd only have her word to go on.

All we remember now is Britain's resistance, but there were absolutely people who wanted to sue for peace. It's understandable but it's fortunate that Churchill really had a handle on Hitler and knew that this was basically a war to the end, either now or later.
