Yeah, "only in school zones" and "during school hours" makes it all seem sooo rational. The reality is try driving 20mph. It is incredibly, unnaturally slow and 15mph below the normal posted limit of 35mph. Second, it's not just during opening and dismissal, it's all day long, even when no children are anywhere around. And finally, the whole program is administered by a private company who installed the equipment. You send your "fine" to them and they pocket the majority of the revenue as profit and only pass on a small fraction to the city. This is obscene public policy in the guise of children's safety.

Those speed cameras are enough to make me reconsider what business I visit in EP. And I would damm sure never live anywhere near one. EP muni government should be ashamed of themselves for a disgusting money grab.

I can tell you they've been in Newport for a long time. You see them diving boats for service, cleaning, etc.. all the time in the summer. Can't vouch for them personally but they've been around.

Reply to Selling to Dealerships by blacklabz1015
One thing I've learned after trading a lot of cars in is.... the value of a used car at the wholesale level (which is what a trade or sale to dealer is worth) is pretty firm. Ie.. certain year, make, model, mileage, and equipment and any decent used car manager is going to come in within +/- $250 bucks. Some dealers may low ball you or they may "over allow" you if you're trading vs. another purchase. But fundamentally the car price is pretty set. Places like Carmax and Carvana are going to give you a pretty solid number.

It's definitely the weather. It's the closest place you can get to (lots of flight options to multiple cities) that has reasonably consistent warm winter weather. Even GA,SC, and NC are cold in the winter and north FL can be cold too. So RI's (and NY, NJ, CT, etc) flock to south Florida, east and west coasts. Most people I know are snow birds. They go down in October. Come back for holidays, then go back down for Jan thru April and return to RI to enjoy our summer. They also come back to take care of healthcare which is generally better here.

There is no "threshold" and there is no tax for beneficiaries who inherit bank accounts or the benefits from life insurance. If you were to inherit an IRA or other retirement plan then there could be income tax due. Some large estates can also be liable for estate tax but not the beneficiary.
TLDR: Life insurance and bank accounts are not taxable to beneficiaries.

Reply to Check your headlights! by lugo2
I talk about this with my wife once in awhile since it seems to happen a lot more then I remember in the past. My theory is that with the advent of dashboards that are always backlit, even with headlights off, people don't realize that their headlights are off. It can be a bit hard to tell when your interior is lit up and you're driving in an area with lot of ambient light. Most cars have auto-headlights and people just assume they came on and can't really tell that they're not on. So when you flash them they have no idea what the issue is.

Reply to Breeze Airways opens base of operations in Rhode Island by therealDrA
I've flown Breeze several times now. On time departures and arrivals, new planes, friendly flight crews. With PVD becoming a base it could also improve reliability with local crews and spare planes. Perhaps I've just been lucky so far but hoping they can keep it going.
