I love Beavertail! Looking at that plate, that's not Beavertail. The light tower at Beavertail is made of light grey granite blocks, not red bricks. So, even if I hadn't just gotten the Plum Beach lighthouse plate, I would probably skip this one.

For comparison, I have an oil boiler driving a forced hot water system in an 1100 ft^2 house. It also supplies my hot water. I got a delivery of oil yesterday, an the cost since mid-December worked out to ~$8.60/day, and I don't have to haul around 50# bags of pellets.

In general, the tap water should be fine. If you're noticing a change in taste and cloudiness, that may be a short term problem. I don't have a lead service line, and I will often use the tap water for cooking or drinking. I find the Chlorine a bit heavy handed, so use a Brita Stream filter to remove the excess Chlorine.

This is in keeping with the Ocean State theme. Marine navigation buoys are red and green, and you stay between them to stay in the channel. In this configuration, you're clearly leaving the city, since red is on your left, and the alliterative memory aid "Red Right Returning," tells you to keep the red on the right side when coming into port.

I just got a delivery of oil, so I know how much it cost to heat my house over the last 54 days (since the last delivery). I have a 3 br single family house, with 1 heating zone (whole house), that I keep set at 18 ºC (~64 ºF) 24/7. I also get hot water from the oil. I paid $6.41/day for the oil, which would be $192.30 for 30 days.

The heating oil delivery I got a few days ago was $1.20/gal cheaper than the one I got in October, so it's coming down some.

As you note, they don't share the test reports, and their unwillingness to do NSF/ANSI tests raises a big red flag for me. Many users seem to love them, but I find their lack of standard testing rather sus.

I think the PWA water is pretty good from a health and purity perspective. My only complaint is that they're a bit heavy with residual chlorine. I use a Brita Stream pitcher, which filters chlorine, and not much else, quickly as I pour.

I'd be more inclined to try a Berkey if they would certify with any of the standard water filter testing bodies.

Yes, I knew one of them did, but didn't remember which one. But the results from enabling that filter seem pretty random. It shows stations that aren't full service, and doesn't list others that are known to be.

Except for the part that mentions Hannaford...
"Price is where Market Basket excels. Consumers' Checkbook says $100 worth of groceries would only cost $82 on average at Market Basket, a savings of 18 percent. That bags the store second place in the price category, behind Walmart by only one dollar ($81) and ahead of Hannaford ($89) and Target ($92)."

When I was recently looking to get oil service at a new house, I called half a dozen oil companies. Kent County Oil was the only one that answered their phone and/or called back with info. I don't know how their prices compare, but they were far and away the best to deal with.

There are also no trains to/from Wickford Junction on the weekends, or late on weeknights. The schedule is hostile to anyone not commuting to a 9-5 job, and misses a lot of recreational use potential.

Reply to What’s up with all the NH ads… by snow-covered-tuna
NH has one network television station. Southern NH is considered part of the Boston media market, so you'll get NH ads on Boston stations.
As for why you don't get RI ads, it's because the Providence media market (which includes Fall River and New Bedford) is distinct. They have their own stations of all the networks, and RI ads focus on that market.

Again, your dad's version is good sense, and works over a large range of following differences.
Your fixed 32 ft rule makes no sense under any driving conditions, and isn't used by anyone I've heard of before you.

This seems to be sensible guidance that you've misunderstood. "Look two cars ahead" doesn't mean two car lengths. It means pay attention not only to the car directly in front of you, but also to the car in front of that one. You'll have advanced warning if they do something unexpected, and you start to react at the same time or before the car directly in front of you does.

I did drivers' ed in RI, in the 70s. Even then, we were taught a time based guide, and the car length per 10 MPH thing (I've never heard of a car length rule that didn't scale with speed) was mocked as old fashioned and dangerous. I don't think anyone claiming two car lengths, regardless of speed, is arguing in good faith.

If nothing else, I have to pay with a verified email address. The impression that page gives is that it's asking for a subscription to read, though as you allude to, a "free" account (collecting a spammable email address) would do. My only visits to the journal's site are when I click links here for more details without noticing where they go. It's not that often—maybe a handful of times over the last six months. As for the paid options, the price there isn't at all competitive.
