I went into a liquor store once and asked how much their JD was. It was higher than I wanted to spend so I said thanks and walked away. The guy got mad at me and yelled at me for coming in his store and not buying anything. This was in Boston and there were like 4 other liquor stores next to it, I was just trying to find the cheapest one.

I blame high school/middle school for conditioning us. You’re around mostly the same people for years and years. They remember every little thing you did wrong to embarrass and ridicule you. They give you nicknames that stick for years. It’s horrific.

Then you leave and enter the adult world and expect similar behavior from your peers, so you spend the rest of your life defending yourself from this experience.

That’s not what I’m saying at all. Even the Romans had an average life expectancy of like 70+ if they made it to adulthood, which is not terribly dissimilar from today.

Think of it as over active immune systems. Those who had over active immune systems had a better chance in fighting off bubonic plague, but also greater chance to fight their own body.
