Reading the article, I don't think that's what the judge was suggesting. I think it's a little more complicated than that, and although I'm not certain I fully agree, I think I understand where they are approaching this from.
I think it was more of a "buck your ideas up, sort yourself out, and you can still have a normal life" type speech, especially since he pointed out how the defendant is still young.
It reads to me like "you're a fuck up, you know you're a fuck up, stop drinking, sort your shit out, but in the meantime you're on the sex offenders register. This is your opportunity. Go."
coyote-1 t1_irvrh24 wrote
Ummm… this guy is no longer young. He’s in his mid-thirties, with literally dozens of offenses on his record. And sexual assault indicates he’s only getting worse. A “wife and family”, at this point, would be nothing more than punching bags for him, and his pathos would be carried on in his children.
While I get what you are saying, the judge is misguided.

*rolls eyes* yes judge we know it was the subsequent assault that was the problem but that bit's already illegal so we were hoping to ban him from using dating apps so when he inevitably breaches that condition we could arrest him *before* he assaults anyone else.

And judge tells him to find a woman and start a family. Fuck sakes.
Edit to add:
Also,
>The court was told eight women, including his mother and grandmother, had taken non-molestation orders against Feeney. He also has convictions for assaults and breaches of court orders, with the majority of his offending occurring while intoxicated. The title might be sensational, but the judge should be fired.

I did... he showed sympathy to a rapist and repeat abuser. That is not at all appropriate.

Ahh Irish, yeah he's not going to be getting any better. Best bet is he turn gay, and date a guy who can beat his ass if he slips up. No harm no foul there.

He lives in the UK?

Lives on beragh ireland. Or the case was in breragh. Tyrone is northern ireland. Domestic violence is a huge issue in ireland, it has one of the highest rates. The judge telling him he can clean up his act and be a better person dispite the dude having like i think it was 46 other counts of violence is dumb af. Especially in a place where domestic violence is very high. This guy is never going to clean up nor go on the straight and narrow.
