No one forced Fetterman to do anything. Unlike too many of the GQP coterie, he is a free thinker operating within his own, free, sphere.

Did they? Not seeing how that has anything to do with him being a free thinker and, I suspect, neither do you. Time for you to climb out of your mother's basement. No 50-y.o. man should be living there.

Close to $160 Million dollars was spent on Fetterman’s campaign.

Money like that isn’t spent on a guy who’s only running for himself.

And if Fetterman is such a free thinker, then why did he shamefully lie in front of a national audience during his only Senate Debate with Oz about his views on fracking, claiming he’s always been pro fracking when there’s mountains of video and articles refuting that? Shouldn’t liberals who are anti fracking feel betrayed?

Asking why Fetterman flipped the position on fracking is a valid and worthy question, but not when it's a non-sequitur

Free thinking and honest people speak the truth regardless of the situation.

Fetterman lied multiple times during his debate with Oz, highlighted with his blatant lie regarding fracking, even when he was directly confronted with his own words by the panelist.

The obvious answer is that Fetterman is just like any other politician, and once thrusted onto the statewide and national stage/spotlight he was incentivized to lie about his record and instead take stances that would make him more electable.

This directly negates the idea that he’s a free thinker operating in his own world, he’s a slimy politician like the rest of them and was willing to say and do whatever it took to get elected, including lying about pivotal parts of his record regarding fracking because he knew admitting his pro fracking stance would be detrimental to his campaign in PA, a state that has many jobs related to oil and gas.

If Yinz honestly think a man that was supported by $160M, one of the largest war chests for a senate race in the history of the country, is somehow different then every other politician, then I have a bridge to sell you.

People don’t buy off politicians who can’t be bought…

eh. Lamb would have beat Oz

18

ewyorksockexchange t1_ja9vcy3 wrote

I’m not sure that’s true. Lamb would have been a solid candidate, but Fetterman had the best name recognition statewide, especially once the primary was complete. The margin was slim enough in that race that a candidate change between the primary and general could have made the difference.

That said, the guy you’re replying to seems to think Fetterman had no agency as the duly nominated candidate for US Senate. If he was being pushed to run just to secure a seat and not because of any personal ambition or sense of service, wouldn’t he have already retired and allowed the governor to choose a replacement?

Also depression is a common symptom in stroke victims as they go through the recovery process. No matter if he won or lost, it sounds like he’d be dealing with clinical depression in the aftermath of the stroke.

No that would be an absolute disaster. The governor doesn't choose a replacement for the next 6 years. They just select a replacement until a special election this November. It would give the GOP a do-over with a better candidate against what would likely be Lamb who already lost the primary.

With Sinema leaving the Democratic party that means the Democrats could theoretically lose control of the Senate (should Sinema change who she caucuses with) in a year that wouldn't normally be possible. That would be mayhem for Biden's reelection campaign and absolute chaos if a liberal Supreme Court Justice died or retired next year.

2

ashleyorelse t1_jad1t1q wrote

Any decent candidate would have beaten Oz as long as people came out to vote, and they would have won because Oz is a terrible con artist.

People like Oz only run and think they can win because the greatest con artist of all time found the needle in the electoral college haystack and barely won an election he had no business winning.

So then every TV con artist thinks they can do it too. Well, PA didn't have an electoral college, and the better candidate won.

TL;DR - If you're not in a ruby red district or state, there aren't enough people who will buy your snake oil for you to win.

Of course when I voiced my concerns in the WaPo comment section, I was called an idiot. I’m sure I’ll be called an idiot here too. So when the GOP ran Hershel Walker who is not particularly intelligent compounded by the likelihood of brain damage from football all because Trump wanted him, I felt nauseous. I couldn't vote for that clown. At least Fetterman was fully functioning when he entered the Democratic primary.

I changed my voter registration to Democrat after this past election. Trump and Trumpism were the first strike. The GOP blocking the insulin cap for all Americans was the second strike. And nominating a man clearly unqualified for Georgia's senate seat was the third strike. So I'm out of the GOP. Thank God Kemp isn't a full blown Trumper though. Kemp and Raffensberger won BECAUSE they demonstrated independence from Trump. Walker clung to Trump.
