When we very first heard about the cruiser being stolen, I asked my husband "Don't they keep weapons in there? What if he decided to go on a shooting spree with PD weapons?" Who would be responsible for that? If we were to leave our vehicles unlocked with weapons inside and someone got a hold of them and killed someone, we would be responsible for leaving a weapon unsecured.

Luckily he didn't go that route but it was my first thought.

The guns are usually locked in a gun rack and to unlock them you need to press a button usually on the light bar control head. It should be an unlabeled button and sometimes it has a dummy label on it like Aux1 or something like that.

I used to work at a gas station and every single day, multiple times, a police officer (they all did it, it wasn't just any one particular officer) would come in and leave their car running right outside with the shotgun sitting right there between the seats while they took a shit in our restrooms.

I always thought that if I ever became desperate or suicidal, I'd steal a cop car, because it would be just so damn easy.

Also every cop car in America has either a shotgun or an AR-15/Surplus M4 in it, I know I asked about the specifics from an Orono PD officer and basically they try to keep the cruisers all having the same available gear, but each officer had to be certified to use the rifle before they would be allowed to use it. Orono is a unicorn of a police department though, not all are as responsible.

As for why police need long arms, when responding to a situation with an armed and dangerous individual, police need to have as much or more lethality as the people they're being called to stop. Pistols are more of a "always available" option in the belt because any call or traffic stop could turn deadly at the drop of a hat, but there's a reason the military doesn't equip infantry with only pistols, they're not actually as good, it's harder to hit your Target with a pistol and there's less "stopping power" to them.

These tools are fine for a typical cop in my opinion if used by someone with two braincells who doesn't jump to bringing out the rifle everytime Becky calls about some dark skinned locksmiths working at her neighbor's door, but we live in a country that is far too protective of shitty officers and promotes a police culture that ousts honest ones.

Essentially when you power citizens with high powered weaponry the police also need to have said high power weaponry.

There was a case a long time ago (don’t remember where) of two bank robbers that had high powered guns and when the cops showed up they had to retreat because they basically brought knives to a gun fight. I think they had to go to a nearby gun store to equip themselves with the correct weaponry. I could be wrong with some details though.

You're thiking of the North Hollywood shootout, the police's inadequacy had nothing to do with the robbers rifles but in the body armor they were wearing. .38s and buckshot have terrible penetration against hard armor.

Although I did find this:

I believe firing handguns at body armor was an inadequacy hence why they needed to go get AR15s. They had fully automatic weapons to the officers handguns. I think my point stands.

More like 8,000 to 10,000 more than MSRP on a new civilian Ford Explorer, cause that's what it goes for new, I'm guessing they're pricing it at what they'll sell it for when it's out of service rather than what they bought it for.

Very cool stuff. It's funny cause I have a resin printer and was just thinking the other day how easy it would be to make intricate dildo molds with it the other day. My bucket list is weird and I want to someday have a collection of various real and fictional phallic space craft turned into dildos as an art piece. Penetrating the stars, lol

Life has no rules, besides having to make sure to fully cure resin prints at least 6 hours before using them to mold silicone, so go for it.
