Most of the state is densely populated and rifle rounds can travel crazy distances unobstructed. The lawmakers completely forget about franklin and Berkshire counties, which have nowhere near the density and thousands of acres of unbroken forest where rifle hunting would be safe. But until that changes, we’re stuck with slugs.

Same and I was at Drum so i was ‘close’ in that I could drive home, but far enough it was a pain. Upstate NY has a similar feel but nothing is quite like Maine

If conditions are right and you set up at the right depth and structure, yeah its like pitch and catch. And to keep warm! 90% of the heat goes up not down. You’ll have a small puddle around the stove but you’re not gonna melt a hole in the ice lol. 3-4” is safe for a grown man to walk on, 6-8 is safe for snowmobiles, 14+ you can drive a full size pickup on
