The problem is that everyplace is just another place. They mostly suck. But in the end it's just a place and you can choose how to interact with it. Or not. I've tried moving long distances to escape my troubles and found that they have a way of following you.

Not a historian, but I think the whole issue is very complicated. Eugenics was, at the time, mainstream and fairly widely accepted as a great idea. I'm sure well meaning people right now (myself included) are promoting ideas that will seem off-putting in the future. No need to honor these men, of course, but I think it is important to take the historical context into account when personally judging. There but for the grace of god go I, kind of thing.

y'all are brutal. And probably young. There's no WAY that I (not SUPER old, but old enough to have a fucked back) could shovel that much driveway. And and 8 month old baby doesn't exactly leave you with a ton of extra energy.

Really? This seems like a less dignified topic than VT Edition usually covers. I'd probably listen, but it kind of makes me cringe. There are tons of podcasts for this kind of thing.

But whatever.

This might be a useful resource as you look into options. Good luck, and be safe!

Edit: I also just came across this article. It's Burlington specific but points out both the problems we have going on and some things people are doing to work against them: https://www.wcax.com/2023/03/12/burlington-city-council-consider-resolution-condemning-transphobia/

Nobody is "censuring" you. You keep getting so many reports that your posts get zapped automatically.

I don't think of them as christmas lights, more like decorative lights. It looks nice when it snows and they're on. So sometimes I plug them in when I feel like it.

I also have white "christmas lights" as decorations on my porch in the summer, so maybe I'm just a fan of sparkly things.

Expanding "digital services" is just going to end up being more expensive than having books you can keep. They set limits on how long the library "owns" access to the books -- such utter bullshit.

Definitely complain to those in power to change this, but also do some reading on open access journals and books which I'm hoping will take off. Cut out the publishing companies and just share knowledge.

Back when I was driving around the country like an idiot, truck stops sold "night driving glasses" that were tinted yellow. Aside from looking a certain type of cool, the yellow tint really did make headlights easier on the eyes.

This is really the best option. Neurology at UVM is impossible to deal with. I go to Boston, but I'm sure Dartmouth would be fine too. Asking you to wait 18 months is laughable.
