Reply to Traveling to Maine by deepbass77
You don't say how long you will be in Maine. If you are here for a week or two, save yourself the drive to Bar Harbor. If you are here for the summer, put it on the list. Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park are both beautiful and worth the visit. If you have less time there are plenty of places within a short drive from Wells that are also nice. Explore the lakes region by taking a ride to Naples, ME. Visit Portland. If you are really set on driving up the coast go to Boothbay Harbor.

I had a similar situation. I dealt with it by writing a letter. Put all of your facts together in writing and send them to the address to which you would have paid the fine. Many weeks later I received a letter basically telling me "case dismissed".

I have hired probably 2000 professionals or more in my lifetime. Which means that I have probably perused 100,000 or more resumes. I have never once taken note of where someone graduated from.

My wife and I just stayed there for 2 nights last week and had a great time. No complaints about the room, the service, the bar, or the restaurant.

Reply to Maine residents - what do you find positive and negative about your state's low population density? by LockedOutOfElfland
Social isolation was easy during the pandemic. I don't see any negatives since I don't care to be around people.

I highly recommend the Parker House, an older, historic hotel where the parker house rolls and Boston Creme Pie were invented. Check it out on Google and you will see that it is conveniently located between downtown, the Back Bay, and the market area. Close to the Boston Common and several historic burial grounds if you are into cemeteries.

What State are you in? It's been mostly beautiful here with long stretches of dry weather during October and November. Occasionally it has rained and when it did it was a downpour.

I'm ok for NESN because I can tap into my Comcast account in MA but it won't let me watch the Celtics for some reason.

Yes, but she does not accept grant proposals. You have to rise to the attention of her advisors and they reach out to you. You cannot apply or ask for money.

I'm learning that most grant-making organizations operate on cycles and that the cycles for this year have closed. So I will wait until spring. I am also learning that most Maine grant-making organizations give out 5 to 10 thousand of $$. I am trying to buy a 100kw generator and transfer switch and have it installed. I may need $75,000 or more. Even the Stephen & Tabitha King Foundation has a max of $50k and their next cycle is in spring. I may need to go to more than one foundation. I have also learned that some of the really big foundations don't even have an application process, they find you. Jeff Bezo just gave $1.25 million to a food pantry in NH but there is no way to ask him for money, you have to come to his attention. The same with his ex-wife who is giving away billions (with a B). So if anyone has any connections to Jeff Bezos or Mackenzie Scott please let me know. I'd be happy if someone would whisper in the ear of Stephen King. His foundation wants to do smaller grants but will go up to $50k for a special situation.

You can schedule an Uber in advance. I have done it for early morning runs and it has worked fine. You will get a message telling you who your driver is in advance.

Where would I start with that? Should I approach the town manager? Can organizations apply for that money or is it up to the town to dole it out?

The food bank is in Harrison. Currently serving around 500 families. I do have some information on the towns served and the numbers of individuals and families.

I have looked into that foundation but the grant cycle is closed for this year. I will certainly investigate when it reopens next year.

Over in Norway, near Oxford go to Boomers and sit on their deck. Lake views. If you want to see lots of trees on a ridge, no lake, go to Fluvial Brewing in Harrison. Nice outdoor setting, fire pits, etc. Sometimes music and food trucks.
