You don't say how long you will be in Maine. If you are here for a week or two, save yourself the drive to Bar Harbor. If you are here for the summer, put it on the list. Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park are both beautiful and worth the visit. If you have less time there are plenty of places within a short drive from Wells that are also nice. Explore the lakes region by taking a ride to Naples, ME. Visit Portland. If you are really set on driving up the coast go to Boothbay Harbor.

I highly recommend the Parker House, an older, historic hotel where the parker house rolls and Boston Creme Pie were invented. Check it out on Google and you will see that it is conveniently located between downtown, the Back Bay, and the market area. Close to the Boston Common and several historic burial grounds if you are into cemeteries.

I'm learning that most grant-making organizations operate on cycles and that the cycles for this year have closed. So I will wait until spring. I am also learning that most Maine grant-making organizations give out 5 to 10 thousand of $$. I am trying to buy a 100kw generator and transfer switch and have it installed. I may need $75,000 or more. Even the Stephen & Tabitha King Foundation has a max of $50k and their next cycle is in spring. I may need to go to more than one foundation. I have also learned that some of the really big foundations don't even have an application process, they find you. Jeff Bezo just gave $1.25 million to a food pantry in NH but there is no way to ask him for money, you have to come to his attention. The same with his ex-wife who is giving away billions (with a B). So if anyone has any connections to Jeff Bezos or Mackenzie Scott please let me know. I'd be happy if someone would whisper in the ear of Stephen King. His foundation wants to do smaller grants but will go up to $50k for a special situation.
