Essentially, if you ask an AGI to create as many paper clips as possible, it will in theory consume the universe and fill it with paper clips if it isnt aligned with what we want. If you "align it" e.g. it can't harm humans, it should in theory only create paper clips in so far as it doesn't harm us in the process. It gets complicated really fast though since a way for it to avoid hurting us, might be to put us into hibernation and put us in storage whilst it creates paper clips for all eternity.

It basically needs to be constrained in the way it goes about achieving it's goals otherwise it can do anything and that won't necessarily end well for us.

Is social media the new "video games are bad"? Before that it was tv, before that radio, chess, books and so on.

How about we actually parent our children instead of letting technology do it for us? Teach them the benefits of moderation, harmfull effects of too much social media, etc. Why do people look for everything and anything to blame bar themselves? You can argue all you want about how addictive it is but at the end of the day, its your failure as a parent if your kid actually ends up addicted to it.

The thing is, it's not just a chat bot. Read the report by Microsoft where they had access to the unrestricted, uncensored version.

It needs a proper memory system, a way to work backwards from a conclusion and a system for reflection which is another way of saying self-improvement. This is all being work on currently with multiple solutions already proposed. I mean, a guy used a few tools and created a basic system of the above on his local machine already. Also look at TaskMatrix.AI by Microsoft which they'll be releasing soon.

The problem with AI governing the world is how do you side step it if we want something different? Or do we simply give up at this point and allow the AI to decide on the future path of humanity?

I think in reality, we will merge with AI in order to not be left behind and keep deciding on our future. Some people will choose to remain humans and chill on Earth or whatever in which case I guess yeah, they will be governed by AI on some level.
