Crystal city is connected to Union Station via the metro. A North East Regional ticket costs $31 if booked regularly and a few weeks out. Not to mention his job is probably in Manhattan which is a 20min subway ride from Penn station where Amtrak will drop you as opposed to JFK which is probably 1-1.5hrs from Manhattan. An Uber from JFK to Manhattan at peak commuting hours will easily be $80-$100.
You can get to Union at 1:55pm for a train that leaves at 2:00pm because there is no security or lines whatsoever even to check a bag. You have the right to 5 checked bags with any ticket not to mention free wifi and cellphone signal the entire ride.
Oh also a seat on an Amtrak train is the size of a first class seat on a flight and reclines by 35°
There are plenty of use cases where planes beat trains but the North East corridor just isn't one.

The thought of going through an airport hassle on a weekly basis makes me I'll.
Why do this when the train is less time door to door and cheaper and infinitely better for the environment

If you do end up doing it definitely commute on the train, it will make it 20x less painful.
Even then I spent last year alternating weeks between DC and NYC. Is it doable, yes. Is it ideal, not at all. It's hard to build stability and routine habits that are the basis of healthy living IMHO. Unless you are incredibly disciplined.
That being said you can try it for a short time as it's definitely sustainable for a year and if you hate it just move to NYC. That's what I ended up doing as I was in the same position.

What I mean is that there is no reason to make statements like this other than to disparage these people as woman.
Don't get me wrong they should rot in a cell but people use this as an opportunity to express their sexist hatred lol.
The courts aren't stupid and won't let you off just because you get pregnant or make puppy dog eyes at them.

Why tf are you driving a car in NUV
UnusualAd6529 t1_iu16vew wrote
How long are we going to allow car culture to cost lives? How long are we going to allow reckless drivers to murder innocent bystanders in the district?
This is the consequence of DECADES of neglect to our transportation infrastructure and a society that values the comfort of car owners and the profits of car companies over the LIVES and wellbeing of our citizens.
We have to day ENOUGH and advocate agressively for a pivot away from cars as our main form of transportation and hold individuals responsible for their CHOICE to drive recklessly!

Reply to Canals in NYC by Life_Equivalent_2104
It's not really feasible as the canals existed a LONG time ago, namely during the time of Dutch settlement in New Amsterdam.
The ditch are expert canal builders and brought a lot of what they learned from developing their cities to the island of Manhattan.
However, while the Dutch were great canal builders, the English were great land builders. As in London, English settlers and their subsequent anglo-Nee Yorker descendants filled in acres and acres of the river and wetlands systems such that the edge the water where canals used to start are far from the rivers.
That being said Canals don't really make sense for New York. 200 years of development and infilling mean every square inch if Manhattan is densely developed high density urban landscape. It wouldn't be feasible nor beneficial to rip a canal into the city. No canal transportation could possibly compete with the high efficiency of rail in that kind of setting.
