I grew up in New Hampshire in the 70s and 80s. During one of the big blizzards we jumped out of the second floor bathroom window into the snow drift and dug a tunnel to the driveway.

And this shit is still really fucking cold, you talking trucker hat.

Do you also pop up and say "who cares, they do one of those every year" when people bring up the Super Bowl? It doesn't have to be a once in a lifetime event to be noteworthy. It doesn't have to be shocking. Literally no one is claiming that it is except the people you're imagining you're talking to.

We go through periods where we can't find it, but the Nashua Hannaford usually has Brighams peppermint stick. Website says it's in stock right now, although I find that is sometimes wrong.

New England Weather Guy on Facebook has a good summary. The causes of concern are the high winds (power outages are likely), heavy rain (flooding), and the rapid drop in temperature which could mean roads icing quickly during holiday travel (and will make things worse for the people without power).

For that matter, is spending equally high in every election year? There's a big difference in noise and media attention between an election year like 2000 or 2016 and an election year like 1984 or 2004. I assume that's reflected in the amount of spending (if nothing else, you simply have fewer big-pocketed candidates in the mix when a popular incumbent is running).

I'm definitely not an expert. Maybe it really does have a huge impact. But listing a few figures from a major primary season doesn't make that case.

It was cool when I was a teenager in the 80s. I think I met everyone who ran for president from 1984 to 1992 (I guess by extension I met most of the people who had run in 1980), or damn near.

But big picture, it's silly for NH to have the first primary, and ridiculous that such importance has been attached to the first primary. The second part we can't do much about, but we can fix the first.
