Must be nice to have a fun family. In mine, this would have been more of a pick-up line.

Exactly. And since I personally know Asian-Americans who adhere to his philosophies to form their ethics, and they are very enlightened, I admire him greatly.

capitol
kăp′ĭ-tl
noun
A building or complex of buildings in which a state legislature meets.
The building in Washington, DC, where the Congress of the United States meets.
In Rome, and in Roman cities and colonies, the precinct and temple of Jupiter Optimus Maximus, the protector of the city.
China had a center of government. But I should have said capital, so thanks for your very astute and timely reply. Keep up the good work--I could have used you when I was grading 200 essays a week! Give yourself an award.

So true. Confucius's friend told him, "Dude, get out of the capitol because they're going to kill you," so he went to live in the provinces, lol. I'd say not only can you not please or be liked by everybody, but the better you are, the more you will be hated by some.

No, it means don't assume that everyone has the privilege of having high reading skills and/or had the opportunity to acquire same.

Reply to Les Miserables by Victor Hugo... by Johnhfcx
For all the numbskulls posting about some version other than the BOOK, the point OP is making is that the book is a work of genius. Hugo's novels changed laws in France. That, imo, is the test of greatness--does your work affect the future constructively.
I love the part about the boy, the mudlark, who lives in the elephant. The whole book is so f-ing amazing if you don't read it, you're a deadbeat.
