Reply to Pride and Prejudice to me is the epitome of romance novels but I recently found something about Elizabeth that I disliked by nyanyaneko2
I agree with you- she definitely knows she’s an intelligent and attractive young woman, “my beauty you had early withstood,” and she’s proud of that fact (it can be seen in the way she talks about her mother and her younger sisters). She is so confident and fearless. But she is just too likeable a character to hold it against her- and becomes aware of her own/her family’s faults and is able to admit that- well that makes for a pretty great character.

I don’t know exactly which editions they are (and I’m on holiday at the moment so I can’t go into my study to check) but it’s my full collection of Jane Austen novels that my best friend bought me for my 21st birthday. Each book has an image of a different regency outfit on the cover.

Reply to Silly question for those who have read Jane Eyre by omniicrafter
I have watched those videos of how previous generations used to dress- no wonder they needed lady’s maids, there were so many layers (not to mention all the buttons up the back and the ties and the long hair etc)
