As long as we have the COGs this won’t happen. Right now municipalities get to have their cake and eat it too. Zero incentive to merge when they can get their services paid for by the state/other larger munis while giving up no authority.

If you’re not familiar with your council of government, look into it. We have regional services, just not regional government.

I can’t speak for federal DOT, but I’m sure alternatives were studied and this was deemed the best solution. Could be sub base/coast guard related, could have just been prohibitively expensive. Could have been too difficult to work around all the rail infrastructure surrounding the bridge

Oh my sweet summer child.

The project was stalled for a bit waiting for funding but has been underway and will continue to be for the next decade or so. Thus far has been superstructure work that hasn’t necessitated much disruption, but that will change in about 2 years iirc. The bridge turns 80 this year and is in need of major rehab. Of course, it still needs to be operable throughout the rehab as well, which is why it takes so long

So do you struggle with reading or were you just excited to respond to something the op didn’t say? They didn’t say blowing through a red light, they said passing cars stopped at a red light. You’re not required to que up behind stopped traffic.

If only drivers would too, maybe they wouldn’t kill so many tens of thousands every year. How many people were killed last year by a light running bike? Or by any bike collision? Maybe your priorities are a little completely ass backwards?

I bet you’re as good at mowing down pedestrians as you are strawmen.

But, what point are you even trying to make with this one? That people are flinging themselves into the street at the last second as a car is speeding towards them? Maybe it’s worth taking a step back and ask why you’re not being taken seriously?

Go to any city or town center and spend an hour watching the intersections if you want a handle on the actual behavior here. Cars rarely stop for someone with their hand up at an intersection. Speeding on commercial and residential streets is as ubiquitous as it is everywhere. Distracted driving is rampant and not at all equivalent to someone walking on their phone. If you think the problem is people diving into the street at the very last second as a car is coming you’re living in a fantasy bubble.
