Reply to What’s up with Bangor? by EmeraldMoose12
Bangor’s infrastructure is overextended. As economies shift and population declines, there’s an over abundance of infrastructure. Also not to mention, urban renewal hit Bangor hard with destruction of its first city hall for the Haymarket parking garage and Union Station being a strip mall, among other things.
The city has a good chance to get it together. I think when passenger rail service returns we’ll see a downtown-centric approach to revamping the city’s and regions economy.

Yeah, these buildings literally are the definition of New England. And I don’t know, Bath, Belfast, Bangor, Biddo, (so many B’s?!), Portland, Augusta…urban can still be New England.

FWIW, when you cross the border up there, the Northwoods opens up to farmland. Privately held land is sometimes part of the conservation equation. The fact that Irving makes its money in forestry is mainly why the Northwoods stays as woods.

Yes. It’s a family business for lack of a better term that has business in everything from forestry to railroads to oil and even shipbuilding.
