There's nothing intrinsic to the wire that has anything to do with temperature control. Thermostats are just on/off dry contact switches that turn on/off parts of the heating/cooling system depending on some internal temperature measuring device, like bimetallic strips in mechanical stats or thermistors in digital ones. You can even do this manually by shorting wires.

Do you not make any personal decisions in life without a team of scientists to hand you a study on it? Are you incapable of using your existing knowledge on materials science and physics to make an educated guess on something? Do you really need somebody to tell you that metal is stronger and lasts longer than rubber?

That was an excerpt from that "article" the other person posted. Even if it stays off longer, it will still need to stay on longer for the oil to reabsorb the heat it lost. Energy in = energy out still. The ONLY case where that doesn't apply is with a heat pump.

Personally, I use infrared quartz heaters and just point them at me.

There's nothing private about a license plate. I have no idea where this idea came from. It's only a courtesy if someone blurs it, but they don't have to.
