The Denver metro area has a population almost double the entire state of Maine. Obviously smaller towns are going to have more amenities there because there are more people in the surrounding areas.

Maybe you don't get newspapers often but newspapers in general are smaller. I used to work for a small newspaper in Maine. When I first started working there in 2008 it was summertime and the paper in total was 5 sections and more than 60 pages.

I left that job about 5 years later, also in the summer, and we were down to 2 sections and under 20 pages.

Newpapers don't have the money to be as big as they used to. They rely on advertisers, but not many companies are running ads anymore.

Welcome to 2022. Its been this way for a while.

My high school likes to have national reunions - if they find out there are a lot of former students in a particular city they'll plan an event in that city, and there were a solid 30 people at one in Los Angeles, which surprised me. Like 8 people alone from my graduating class of less than 300 students.

I lived in New York for a few years. I started a new job, and on my first day I was talking to someone in the break room and I mentioned I was from Maine. She said, "oh, my son-in-law is from Maine! Maybe you know him!" I said, "yeah, it's a small state but we don't all know everyone, haha."

Then she said his name, and I said "wait...does he have a brother named David?" She said yes, that's his younger brother's name.

I went to the same high school as them - I graduated with his younger brother.
