Same. It feels like pepco should send an email at the very least? They for sure have our contact info, right? I get the marketing stuff.

This is from the regional grid operator. Fingers crossed they don’t need to do it.

TIL other countries have never had to conserve energy to prevent a potential brief blackout.

We've gotten through the highest load period - winter loads peak around 7AM and 8PM - and PJM has ended their most concerning emergency alerts. So I wouldn't expect any rolling blackouts at this point unless something goes disastrously wrong tomorrow morning. The highest risk period by far was this morning.
simmer_down_yall t1_j1knnlg wrote
Unlikely they need to do it at this point unless something unexpectedly bad happens tomorrow morning.

Maybe turn it down, but it’s still going to be in the teens overnight . Don’t turn it off.

Christmas lights (well, string LED lights) take basically no power though.

You can conserve energy by closing the vents to other parts of your house. Also, putting up blankets and towels on your windows helps prevent heat escaping to them

Nada. I would think if this had even a slight chance we would receive alerts (maybe even similar to emergency alerts on phones).

I’m sure the lights + inflatable ones collectively would help make a difference if they are getting this worried about the grid.

There was no blackout. PJM’s systems worked. Regardless, this was an operation to help the entire country grid system (notably by exporting to MISO). So it’s actually an exact example of something ERCOT couldn’t do to help itself last year. https://twitter.com/dr_a_stein/status/1606755212886147072?s=46&t=g4KpMovi-KJNnltFrF-dlw
Anyway, this is also an event that has caused trouble for all the power systems - rather than last year where exclusively ERCOT had issues during that cold snap.

Inflatables are only supposed to run for 4 hours at a time to reduce the stress on the blower. Running your inflatables after midnight makes no sense.

I am 100% in favor of banning gas heating and mandating passive solar with battery electric storage for night time heating. Fossil fuel heating is dead. It shouldn’t be allowed in any new construction or renovation
