Title says it all. Just need to be across the border of DC in either state so FanDuel can confirm my phone’s location and I can place a bet. Will turn right back around as soon as the bets are placed — fastest time to be out of DC bounds is all that matters.

I live in downtown silver spring and I can’t bet online because I’m too close to the border for the sites to verify that I’m not in DC. You might need to go further outside of the District than you think.
My friend is in SS on the DC border and has found if you got 1/2 mile into MD that suffices. From Eastern Ave, he only had to go up Georgia a few blocks to Thayer Ave and it worked.

Depends on what station you’re closest to. From there, it’s a matter of picking the line/train with the fewest stations between you and the border.
If that’s Capital South, fastest might actually be to get to L’Enfant Plaza, then take Green Line to Southern Ave station.
The offshore betting sites (I wont name them b/c it's prob against the rules) allow you to bet from anywhere, if you're not opposed to using a bookie that sends you your checks from Singapore/Malaysia/Hong Kong lol.

The block where Sheraton Pentagon City is worked well for me. It’s easy to exit 395, place your bets, and then hop back on the other way. It’s far enough in VA that you won’t have issues. Sometimes the apps won’t let you place a bet if you’re right on or very close to the border
Eastern Market/Capitol South/Potomac Ave metro out to whichever of the blue orange or silver line arrives to the station first is my guess

Using a VPN isn't going to cut it; the apps will detect it and stop you from placing a wager, and might even lock your account for trying it.
And that's because of the consequences for them of not adhering to state lines. They didn't even let me use a rooted phone despite actually being in a legal state, because location can be spoofed on a rooted phone. And I haven't seen anyone yet figure out how to bypass that detection.

I just went to your link and literally zero of the shootings you are apparently referring to are in Anacostia. In fact on the map you linked there are only two crimes at all in Anacostia, one burglary and one robbery.
However the map you linked is showing crimes in a massive portion of the area, all the way from Suitland (which isn't even in DC) to Carver Langston which isn't in the same Ward or even Quadrant as Anacostia, which leads me to believe that you either don't understand how to use or read that crime map or you don't know what Anacostia even is.
Those crimes are about 97% drug related. Mind your business and there's nothing to be scared of.

Just confused b/c obviously DC doesn't have gangs like out in L.A. / Chicago. And I understand why gangs get into violent feuds over market share and who sells what drug on which block, etc. So is it kinda just the same thing but less structured/organized and more fragmented?
Just can't understand how so many lives are lost over a few grams of drugs. If we were talking Cartel level distribution with millions on the line, being trafficked by organized crime rings, I could at least understand why the stakes are so high that violence is inevitable. When these drug dealers get busted do they get caught with >$100K or is it literally just dudes killing each other over a few $20 bills?

You are raised in a situation that gives you no hope for the future. Nobody you know has ever gone to college and many never even graduated high school. Many if not most of the male figures in your life have been in jail.
All your life people around you have solved problems with violence, because violence is the only thing that gets respect. If someone takes your toy or your lunch money at school you don't get rewarded by your peers or your parents for ignoring them and being the bigger person, you get called a punk bitch, and then even more people take your toys or your lunch money because now you're known as a punk bitch who doesn't fight back.
You live your entire life with this mentality - fight back or things will get worse. You start fighting back with pushes and punches and people back off you. You get older and instead of fists people use knives and guns.
You scrape together some cash to buy a couple ounces of weed or crack or heroin and you start selling and making some money. It's more money than you could ever make legitimately because you either dropped out of high school or got "socially promoted" into a diploma but you read at a 2nd grade level and can't do more than basic arithmetic. But then someone comes and robs you for your stash. It was only $20, $50, $100, not that much but if you don't retaliate you'll be known as a punk bitch and get robbed every time you reup. You won't be able to make money in the drug trade and you certainly can't make much money out of it, so you do the only thing it seems you can do - you shoot the person who robbed you so you don't get known as a punk bitch and can keep your income stream. You might not get caught, and already have the mentality that you're eventually going to go to prison or die young so what do the consequences matter anyway?
To people like us with other options and a better upbringing it seems unthinkable, but when you're in that situation it's completely normal.
It's small money, and stupid beef. Usually pretty petty stuff tbh. Violent criminals aren't good at risk vs reward analysis or trying to build some sophisticated criminal enterprise.
