For some context, I live in Connecticut which for those who don’t live in America, Is right in between New York City and Boston.

We currently have been using Hulu with the Live TV feature as our main TV provider for over 3 years now.

The only issue I had with Hulu was that despite me living closer to Providence and Boston than New York. We only get the New York Regional Channels, for both sports and News.

We also get the local Connecticut New Stations but we don’t get the New England Regional Sports Networks which for me is a major red flag as I am a Die hard Boston Sports Fan.

A couple of days ago, I asked my dad if he would be interested in switching to one of the TV providers that “supposedly” had the New England Sports Networks.

We sat down and went through the options and we ended up settling on YouTube TV.

Big mistake, they don’t have the New England Networks. Even though I read an article that said they had those networks, apparently their only on TubiTV and DirecTV Stream.

I ended up digging further and found an OFFICIAL STATEMENT FROM YOUTUBE TV that said they were removing the New England Regional Networks for all users in that area. Including CT. Now my dad is pissed at YouTube TV for having conflicting articles saying different things. He’s been on the phone with them for over 2 hours trying to cancel the subscription. I honestly feel like this could’ve been prevented had I read the article more.

TL;DR Asked my Dad to Switch TV providers for one channel and ended up not getting that channel after signing up.

Well - its a simple fix by canceling. Should be easy to cancel via the website - he is probably haggling for a refund.

Not like there is hardware or installation for YTTV - and your Hulu sub can be re-activated super easy.

One option you might consider is buying a tv antenna - maybe you can tune into the NE broadcasts OTA

Lol this is funny - did you know in the 60s, what tV station you got in CT basically determined whether or not you’d be a Yankees or a Red Sox fan. Some stations carried Boston games, some carried New York lol. So because of that, in some places, you could live across the street from someone and have a rival team you cheered for.

Also, your dad should contact the bank that issued the card that was used to pay for the service; explain what happened; and request a charge back.

If you can provide screenshots of the contradicting info, that will help your case.

YTTV is pretty good about pro-rating the service. If you have only had it 2 weeks and cancel, they will refund the time not used.

That may have changed though - in the early days YTTV was very flexible with a 30 days free trial. Now its like 3 days.

Oh! I had no idea that a request for reasonably-owed charge back that attempts to resolve proved fruitless, could result in a ban from all the Corporate products. THAT is scary.

A few years ago I'd protested a charge from Ebay for an item that never shipped and the seller was 100% nonresponsive, past his allotted time to respond. I had to protest it because eBay's position was that since I'd (in desperation; eBay wasn't helping) contacted PayPal about the fraudulent charge, that PayPal was responsible, while PayPal made eBay responsible.

I received an immediate (provisionary) credit to my bank account, and got to keep it. I will say that since then, eBay's Customer Service has greatly improved standards of customer care, and that since then, every concern has been immediately reasonably addressed, and their follow-up has been great.

There's no reason to do that, services change and the internet can make it very hard to find the most up to date info. That doesn't really make it YTTV's fault.

No need to do a chargeback when you can just cancel and see if they pro-rate it

It's not YouTubes fault there's conflicting information out there, they didn't write the articles.

Having to spend two hours on the phone without getting anywhere might be one.

Resolving problems can be much easier than a lot of people think. That, and a lot of problems go unresolved because lots of folk prefer to have someone/something to transfer negative emotion onto.

Steps Towards Resolving Problems: Define succinctly what you want. Make sure it's reasonable, and that you function on your best behavior. Identify as many sources of possible assistance as you can. Rank-order them. Try the top one--give it a fair attempt within a reasonable period of time. Be clear, never raise your voice, and show respect to everyone you talk to. And show gratitude for every attempt to help. If one person reaches a dead end, ask to escalate. If that fails to produce the desired reasonable outcome, proceed down your list. If you've politely tried everything you can think of, without success, at least you can put the matter to rest, and figure that what you lost was tuition in the school of life.

Unless he is going to claim it was a fraudulent charge, i.e. lie, than I doubt they would do a chargeback in this case. He did order the service and YouTube will prorate the refund to the length of time they used it.

...except that the prorated refund hasn't happened and has not been agreed to.

What happens in YOUR world if YT fails to refund?

They do offer a pro-rated refund. Just jump online and cancel. My guess is they are trying to get a full refund and they won't get it.

YouTube TV dropped NESN in Fall 2020, the same thing happened to my parents. It included NESN when they signed up and then got dropped right after. NESN has most of the Red Sox and Bruins games.

Alternatives are NESN 360 which is $30/month which I think everyone agrees is too much. FuboTV is similar to YouTube TV, it has tiers ($75/$85/$95), but NESN and NESN+ are included on all of them.

I'd recommend trying FuboTV after you cancel YouTube TV. It'll be worth it once it's all set up and you can watch the games together. Cancelling anything is always a pain, good luck 🤞

The big problem with FUBO is it doesn't have any of the Turner networks. No TBS, TNT, TruTV etc. If you like college basketball, that makes FUBO a non-starter since much of the Men's tournament airs on those networks.

Also, FUBO's collection of local stations is hit or miss. They only carry 2 of the local channels in my area, the Fox and ABC affiliates. The CBS and NBC locals are relegated to national feeds.

There may also be no PBS, CW or independent stations depending on your area. CNN and it's associated channels are also absent.

rogeoco t1_jaa4g5j wrote

Didn't realize that wasn't included in the FuBo lineup and March isn't a good time to lose access to college basketball. Seems like you'd have to see if DirectTV/Xfinity includes NESN in your area or live with a combination of FuBo for NESN and SlingTV ($40/$55) for Turner channels.

Now we know why YTTV dropped it. Probably cost THEM $30/month/customer too.

I just checked, it's 3 clicks (once you're on the YTTV page) to get to the cancel button. Why is he on the phone?! Help the poor guy out!

Let me introduce you to a vpn and a go's spoofer. First, sign up for a Google account on your phone whilst spoofing your location to Boston. Use it to set your home location. Then get a vpn, surf shark has a Boston location. Roku and Google TV both have surf shark app. Vpn yourself to Boston. Sign in.
Wallah.

I've done this for years to watch the Pats while moving around the country
