Alright, Providence, I want to know…

I want to know all about your three favorite things in the area.

They can be your three favorite bands, …three favorite bars, …three favorite pizza places, …three favorite sub shops, …three favorite murals, …three favorite parks, …anything!

Just three of your favorite people, places, events, or… well… anything, as long as they are local to the Providence area, that you’d like others to know about and possibly experience themselves.

I encourage folks to share theirs in return, as horizons are always meant to be expanded, but please be courteous to one another.

I look forward to finding out some of your favorites and adding them to my list of things to hopefully experience soon! Thank you all in advance.

3 best walks on the east side, originating from Fox Point neighborhood.

  1. Walk all the way up Benefit St, head up Olney St a couple blocks, then head back down on Prospect St. (Variations include ending up on Congdon St for a few blocks so you can take in the views from Prospect Park.)
  2. Walk around the Dexter Asylum wall - head east on Angell St, left on Arlington Ave, left on Lloyd Ave, left on Hope St. Make it longer by repeating, or by heading further north to encompass the Moses Brown campus.
  3. Tough to skip India Point Park, but I'm going with Elmgrove Avenue for #3. Walk north all the way to the end of Elmgrove Avenue, turn around and walk back. (Avoid the crowds on Blackstone Blvd!) Bonus points if you stop by Swan Point Cemetery at the end of Elmgrove before turning around.)

I agree, India Point park has some good views and would be tough to skip. I like number 2, have done a variation of it. I'll look up the Olney and Elmgrove routes, seem like good routes.

Dont sleep on Neutaconkanut Park or the Blackstone Conservation Park on the east side. It's amazing we have such great parks within our little city.

And uh since I have one more, I guess shout out to Briana's Restaurant on Atwells cause her pupusas are really good, really impressed my Salvadorian mother when she came to Providence to visit.

1000% Briana's restaurant best pupusas in providence. also good if you are a vegetarian cuz most places just have cheese w/ chicken or cheese w/ chicharron and Brianas has bean, cheese, loroco w/ cheese, etc

  3. LaSalle Bakery (Smith St/Admiral St)

Honorable mention: Pastiche (Spruce St). Call me biased, but I think they're a bit overrated. Good stuff, but not knockout.

You gotta check out Rasoi, it’s the best in town (technically in Pawtucket but it’s across the street from India)

Rasoi is AWESOME!!! K&C and Rasoi are owned by the same guy, Sangiv Dhar. I didn't include it since, like you said, it's technically in Pawtucket ☺️

Food/drinks: Tallulah's taqueria, the Eddy, the dean bar (formerly the Magdalena room), venda ravioli, I liked the old canteen but it's been/being sold, NY system weiners,

Walking: prospect terrace/park, Roger Williams park, pedestrian bridge area

I find that we enjoy "taco hopping" - like bar hopping, but different taco places around town. Of course, there are booze involved.

Weekends have $10 unlimited-use commuter rail passes for easy getaways to Boston.

If you're into history, there are plenty of things to see. Benefit st, being one of the oldest in Providence, is always beautiful to walk down. The state house has a RI museum, which I believe is free to enter. You can see the state charter from 16xx. Roger Williams has a museum as well (like $2-$5 entrance fee), with natural life found in Rhode island which is fun. There are old witch graves you can find throughout the state, but you'll be leaving Providence. If you're leaving Providence,you can head to Newport and see the cliff walks, you can head to Exeter to see that witches grave, etc. - it's RI so these places aren't THAT far away. Smithfield has a lot of good restaurants these days (Laura's & blackies to name a few), so does Woonsocket (Ciro's, Christopher's, and river falls). I can always demolish a few sandwiches at the beef barn (N. Smithfield). Always have the cliff walks, too.

  2. Proclamation Ale Company (it's in Warwick, but it's so close to Providence)

  3. Providence Brewing Company (which has solid beer and there's a Tallulah's taqueria location in the same building, which I chalk up to a major win)
