Parked my car in an outdoor lot at an airport before flew out last weekend. With the snowstorm and record low temperatures, I'm a bit apprehensive about the state of my car whenI return next week. I'm expecting to have to dig my car out of the snow and have a scraper in my checked in luggage for that. But not really sure what to if my doors are frOzen in.

Can I carry deicers in my checked in luggage to help me? Is there any other solution to this situation?

What day are you getting back? It supposed to be in the 40s again by Wednesday. There wasn’t that much snow.

Tuesday night. The temperature seems to be still below freezing when I arrive.

The storm was viciously cold but, really, not much snow. Maybe 2”, you won’t have to dig out. And like typical Pittsburgh weather it’s supposed to change quickly when the storm is gone. Depending upon what day you return it’s going to be in the 40-50s by Tuesday or Wednesday.

I think the airport has a service that starts stranded cars with dead batteries. At least they used to. They may be able to help with situations like this.

If you can get your hands on some hand sanitizer the alocohol in it will help melt any ice

My car froze shut yesterday, I still managed to jiggle the door open, start the engine, and run the defroster for half an hour.

I had to do the same. Crawled in through the rear hatch. Eventually got the doors open by jiggling them and pushing from the inside. Used rubbing alcohol to melt whatever was still stuck on the door jambs to prevent refreeze.

I don’t want to freak you out but I would have a solution ready to go for your battery as well. Juuust in case she doesn’t want to start. I got a new battery last winter and mine was sputtering the past two days.
