The budget hole she partly created by cutting NJ income taxes by 30%, which accelerated the rise of property taxes, because by law 100% of state income tax went to property tax relief through local funding and tax credits for seniors and low/middle income earners.

Yes, but the hole was dug and until Christie, they used same strategy to balance the budget, that is reason we needed common sense legislation. UFB

The person who illegally bulldozed the Camden riverfront in an attempt to impress the Republican convention in Philly? Fuck her too.

I’m with you this is historical revisionism on her part, presenting herself as a ‘more rational’ Republican. She did the most damage to NJ finances of any governor in the past thirty years with her bond shenanigans.

When one considers her history, I don't know that I'd look to her to create a new party. She's not exactly a model of excellence.

Imagine interviewing for any other job like "I have no particular plans or ideas for what to do, I just want the title."
The good news is, as dumb as American voters may be, we're not dumb enough to fall for this scam.

The same former governor who donned a white sweat suit and did a ride along with cops and posed with a young black kid being frisked as a photo op stunt? Also as head of George W’s EPA assured everyone that the air was safe to breathe at ground zero after 9-11?

Since it comes up often I thought I'd share this article to clarify for folks who may not be aware: the Forward Party is not going to run a presidential candidate in 2024.
Party co-chair and former New Jersey Governor Christine Todd Whitman:
>"We're not going to be running a presidential candidate in the 2024 elections, we as a board decided that it's just not feasible...we're focused on the ground up. This is a people's movement, a movement that is creating a party."

Lmao she wants to merge with Yang’s party? He got sauced in both the presidential and NYC mayoral elections for a reason. People can see past the cover of “compassion and coming together”, these are just limousine liberals.

I like a lot of what Andrew Yang is proposing. We as citizens need to consider options like ranked choice voting and possibly things like a mixed member district to help reform our incredibly flawed political system.
Even if you don't like the man, consider the ideas and try to propose them to our current representatives. We shouldn't live in a democracy where bribery is legalized in the form of donations, lobbyists have more influence than average citizens, and politicians pass bills and laws to help corporations, not your neighbors. It doesn't have to be two choices, and our current system can be reformed from the bottom up.
low_effort_shit-post t1_j71poyr wrote
I say fuck him for trying to split progressive votes. The NYC mayor thing was also stupid
luxtabula t1_j71va3k wrote
You can't split the vote if things like ranked choice voting and mixed member districts exist. Don't you see how what you're worried about is the real problem? Yang is a flawed candidate without a doubt, but those things are actual good ideas that more should consider.
rhubarbpitts t1_j7208vq wrote
Yeah I like some of these ideas but Yang has all the hallmarks of a grifter. He strikes me as another Krysten Sinema - put on a good show and then fleece the rubes.
luxtabula t1_j7213t2 wrote
Ok we can say that about him and not vote for him.
But we eventually have to realize these are good ideas and they could help reform our incredibly broken system. It shouldn't be just him proposing it. None of our elected officials are pushing this. And part of the problem is we citizens have gotten used to things being broken.
Andrew Yang shouldn't be the only one seeing issues with the electoral system and trying to fix it. That's the problem. His Forward party puts pressure on our current candidates to consider this stuff or be primaried. Hopefully some of them start shifting.
low_effort_shit-post t1_j71vqme wrote
I understand that so get rank choice in place before playing around
MaxTheSquirrel t1_j71x5f3 wrote
The mental somersaults that Yang guys do are impressive
luxtabula t1_j71xb54 wrote
How are you supposed to get that in place if you're not elected?
Besides, we don't need him. I never see people taking the good ideas he has and repurposing them. He shouldn't be the only one running on ideas like this, and that's the main problem.

Besides this district currently is safe for the representative, so having more people beside me making them aware of it combined with an actual spoiler candidate could make them adopt the ideas.

It seems like these well intentioned progressive agendas around alternative ways of counting votes always backfire. Every year California is clenching its butthole either due to their free for all primary that can result in two far right candidates if enough liberals split the votes or it’s brain dead recall system.
In NYC we saw the liberal candidates split the ticket and lead to Adams becoming the nominee. It turned out that the far left voters mostly only voted for their candidate and left the Adams alternative out to dry (I forgot these peoples names sorry). Really we wasted a lot of time and resources on possibly the same result or actually prevented an Adams alternative from being viable because the left still only wants to vote for their preferred candidate and their candidate only. Finally in Maine ranked choice helped Susan Collins get re-elected. Time and time again the left is unable to compromise while the right falls in line. I much prefer the system we have where we’re forced to choose. We may have never had Governor Murphy with ranked choice.

You gave a flawed understanding of lobbying. The most powerful lobby in the USA is The AARP which represents retired people. They give very little money BUT they have a huge base of the most reliable voters. That grants them power. Lobbying isn't just handing out cash
