Literally my two favorite places in New Haven!

I have heard Barcade is cool. I grew up going to old school arcades in the 80's, playing games like Hard Drivin' and Star Wars. Do they have games like that or is it just Pacman and Tron?
TheCaptainEgo t1_j1vs9s6 wrote
They’ve really got a solid mix. Ninja Turtles, Ms PAC Man, QBert, Galaga, Donkey Kong, Frogger, some racing games, some fighting games, and a bunch more

Sounds cool, I'd like to check it out.

Through the end of February there are only two actual concerts at Toad's place. All of the other ticketed events there are glow/dance parties. Better off hitting up any other venue in the city for music nowadays.

East Rock Park and Lighthouse Point are great even during winter. Plenty of bookstores in the downtown area to hang out in. Stella Blues and Cafe Nine for more intimate music venues, the State House is great too. New Haven museum and Leitner Observatory are also a good time. To everyone trashing New Haven/CT, what do other states have that make this area so boring? Elm City has plenty to offer, maybe some people aren’t looking hard enough or even giving it a chance

My partner and I just moved here in June so I’m still discovering, but here are some of my favorites: Explore the various neighborhood shopping areas. The number of small businesses here is way higher than other places I’ve lived. East rock, Hamden, westville, even east haven has some cute places.
Barcade and Elm City games on Orange. Elm city has Friday game nights and weekly Magic gatherings.
Visit strange ways and get a diy fix at Make Haven.
Peruse antique stores. Key to the past is pretty cute, but the one in Stanford can keep you entertained for hours.
Somethings on my list to check out: Savvy tea gourmet in Madison does tea tastings, Mongers market in Bridgeport.
I also recommend following New Haven channels on Instagram-we’ve learned about last minute events that way.

Check out Gather on State St! They have a TON of different events.

You can also do an Elm City Party bike ride or do ice skating at the skate New Haven rinks on state St.

It’s a bit out of New Haven but since you said day trips I’d recommend going to Mt Southington or Ski Sundown for some skiing or snowboarding! I think theyre less than an hour out of the area.

Beaches are still beautiful in winter. Check out Hammonasset in Madison or Silver Sands in Milford.

If you have access to a car (or can find cheap Amtrak tickets) taking a day trip along the coast is always nice! I moved away from New Haven recently to a big city and everytime I take Amtrak home to Boston, I wish I spent more time exploring the tiny towns with a cute little downtown area.
There’s also great hiking places within a 30 minute drive plus much more an hour or so away, though I’m not sure how they’ll be if you guys get snow.

Ice skating at Walker rink is always fun. Check out "skate new Haven" on Instagram or Facebook, they post the public skate hours each week.

Welcome to CT! Your choices outside of New Haven are: spend the day at the DMV, or go to Mohegan Sun. Enjoy!

Reading this in a beautiful, cozy coffee shop in Guilford really made me LOL.

Thank you. It never occurred to me that OP could really explore what the state has to offer by experiencing a different coffee shop than anew Haven’s coffee shops.

If you like board games, Elm City Games on Orange st is a good time. $10 day passes and play all the games you want. Food and drinks are welcome and it’s also byob. It’s also across the street from Barcade if you’re into arcade machines and pinball.
