I travel a lot for work and my job brings me to NH quite often. Because I travel I often find myself staying in hotels with nothing more than a mini fridge for in room accommodations. And because of my limited food storage space, I find that I have to go to the grocery store a lot more often than I do when I’m home. And when I go… no matter what day of the week it is… the grocery store is absolutely packed with people. However, very few, if anyone in the store has a FULL shopping cart. Is there some kind of weird attraction to Market Basket or Hanafords that makes y’all want to go everyday? Why only buy one days worth of groceries and return the next day to repeat the process? Why not plan your meals or just buy what you most commonly use in greater quantity? I haven’t observed this in any other state that I travel to or that I’ve lived in. Genuinely curious about this regional phenomenon.

If I don't go to market basket how will I be able to have lengthy conversations with strangers in a parking lot

Sounds like you have a lot of spare time on your hands op....like enough spare time to worry about other people's grocery shopping frequency

Isn’t funny how humans just love to know everything about why and what other humans do lol.

My Hannaford is about a mile from me. Mine and my kids' schedule is flaky, and we don't get to eat together often. For me, I do shop for a week or so, but when I want meat or veggies, I purchase them the day I'm going to use them. That brings me to the store a few times a week. Didn't realize it was an odd phenomenon. Plus, I hate grocery shopping

It is rare that I can find everything I want in one store. So my typical weekly grocery trip starts with Whole Foods, then Hannafords, then Trader Joes and last stop at Market Basket. At any one place you might think I was not buying much.

This is me. Trader Joe's, local butcher, local egg farm, Market Basket and occasionally, Whole Foods.

I was not aware that it's different in other areas...thinking about it though, when I wasn't home I was either on a business trip or vacation, Those activities, almost never included grocery store visits. You have a very interesting POV.

That said, I do the shopping. I don't like frozen then thawed meat, nor fruit, vegetables. herbs and the like that are days old. Every 4th week or so, I do have a big cart - paper towels, TP, etc.

To match my preferences, I do end up at the Market of Baskets several times a week. 😎

Healthy food eaters tend to shop daily or every other day. The folks that purchase large quantities of food for a week for instance tend to eat heavily processed packaged goods. Pasta, rice, bread, cereals, etc vs fresh fruits and vegetable, meat, poultry.

I feel people up here go to the grocery store way more often than other parts of the country, they are happy to go 2-3 times a week even though it’s 30 minutes one way minimum travel. In-laws do it as well. Source-moved here with spouse as it is her home town.

I can't speak for everyone, but I have limited food storage space, often just a minifridge.... :D

I fit a week's worth of food in my basket because I'm a boring mfer who eats the same shit every week. Helps me cut down on waste and stay within budget. Plus I get takeout on Saturday night.

I live in Berlin Gorham and every time I go there’s someone else I know down every aisle and it’s another ten minute conversation. It can take me an hour to pick up 3 items lol. It’s the only time I see people I’ve known for years anymore. Better than a bar or church. That’s extreme rural life I guess.

Oh and I wish we had a Market Basket or Shaws up here. All we got is a super Walmart and one ridiculously priced small market.

Don't think I've ever heard anyone wish they had a Shaws lmao

You must live downstate. Come north of the notches. When all you got is a Walmart for food Shaw’s looks good. Ever buy fruits and vegs at Walmart? 2 days later they’re rotten.

It might be a lot of single people or couples who like fresh produce but can't eat a lot of it at a time. My wife is in Singapore right now and she can just walk to the grocery store every day to buy fresh produce, baked goods, etc.

I'm curious if you see all the same people when you go. I mean, I'm fairly certain that areas of the state have enough people for stores to be busy with different shoppers every day.

Markets Kitchen has great food for cheap, so I find myself grabbing lunch and/or dinner there alot. Generally grab a few other things while I'm in the store. Also, sometimes I don't have time for a full shopping so I just grab the few things I need now. Even a full shopping is rarely a full carriage for our household
