Hello All,

New to JC here. What are the dog parks in JC aside from Van Vorst? Are there any fenced off parks or big spaces for me to throw a ball for an energized dog? It doesn't necessarily have to be a dog park, I'm really looking for a big empty space so the dog can run. Maybe liberty state park? Willing to drive even to hoboken area. Thank you!!

There is a public large dog park in Hamilton Park. The dog parks in Newport are all private, and the other public dog park downtown, which is behind shoprite on 1st St is smaller than the one at Van Vorst.

Don't go with your unleashed dog in LSP. There are numerous endangered and threatened species, including nesting birds.

LSP is such a nature sanctuary and some idiot in another thread propose building a soccer and baseball field there. You can literally see deer out grazing at dusk.

I'd forgotten about that one. Pretty small park, no?

Definitely on the smaller side but I’ve never seen it crazy crowded like Ham park.

Lincoln park has a big dog run it should show up if you google it. Biggest I've seen and he/she would get a good run. It's fenced-in and also has a smaller little area gated off it. From the main part of Lincoln park, it's over the bridge crossing the US-9, almost by the Hackensack river. Little out of the way but it's nice and quiet the few times I've been over that way.

To add to this, look up Jaroschak Field in whatever map app you use and that will get you there. Jaroschak Field is where St. Peter’s U plays home softball/baseball/soccer games and the dog run is right next to it.

I wonder if there is an area near st peters U - the actual school - that is fenced that I can let the dog run in after hours

Best large dog park in the area is Washington Park.

The dog park at Berry Lane is nice if you prefer gravel over grass.

Under the Colgate clock. It is an unofficial dog park that is big grassy area. Morris Canal park is the same. Unofficial dog park. Always dogs of leash playing fetch at both.

Newport dog park is “private” but nobody has ever checked my residence info and I’ve been going there almost daily for 1.5yrs.

GREAT TO KNOW about newport and colgate clock. I live right next to the colgate clock so this would be great. Would I just go in through that gate that is sort of open? I've seen that before. And it's fenced there right? I'll go walk by :)

I am not a dog owner but Morris Canal Park seems to be a let your dog run free place - no fence but surrounded by water on three sides

Yeah Sure - Dogs on leashes except in traditional dog park - but in reality - Morris Canal Park has become a leash off dog park over the years - Facts
