So my daughter is moving on to middle school next year, she’s 11 and we’re thinking about getting her an Apple Watch SE and using family setup with my IPhone. I know it will be limited, but that’s ok. She already has an iPad and has lots of contacts that she messages. My question is can her Apple Watch that’s setup through my iPhone connect to her Apple ID on her own iPad? In other words, can she message people on her iPad and continue the conversation on her watch and vice versa? Thanks in advance!

Set up the watch with same Apple ID and turn on iCloud sync for contacts. Rest should just work 🙂

Yes, it will have to link it to her Apple ID during setup and then iMessages will work. You’ll have to have messages in the cloud turned on the iPad and the watch for iMessages to sync up.

Just be aware that you have to buy the cellular version to work with Family Setup. A lot of people miss that part and get upset when their new watch won’t activate and they have to spend more money and sign up for a watch account with their carrier.

Yes, it will work perfectly.

Also, I have been using this method for my three boys since ScreenTime was released. They are the only kids in their school without phones and it’s marvelous.

They instead have this thing we used to call “conversations.”
