£80 is the price uk, would've thought it to be similar over the pond. the coiled cable looks really legit, as does the jack end. as you said, sound/build quality is great so i wouldn't worry if i were you

Yes! Totally right, thanks. I realized the packaging is actually just their new “environmental packaging”

This is great thank you! I was actually nervous about what to buy. Been doing research for about a year. Came to the conclusion that for price and consistency of positive reviews from people who care about balanced and clear audio for production and editing these seem to make the most sense. I had a pair of $280 sennheiser’s for years and I never really liked them.
It’s been two days now with the mdr 7506 and I’m so impressed. And the fact that their half the price or a third of the price of others is just a bonus.

Oh man, these were the three I read about the most a decade ago when I was looking for my first pair of "good" headphones over $10 earbuds. Unfortunately they were all too uncomfortable, so I went with the AD700 based on its recommendation for comfort.

They changed the packaging.

iirc the old packaging for these headphones used a lot of plastic, which sony is trying to move away from. $80 is the price one would expect for a pair like this and if the product has good build quality than there's nothing to worry about.
