what's a sando
black_bass t1_itag2s7 wrote
Supposed to be a Japanese sandwich with Tonkatsu pork in the middle. Now I feel that people just call sando pretty much anything 😅
_HumaneCentipede_ t1_itbriko wrote
It’s just short for sandwich, not short for only tonkatsu sandwich.
Graviton_Lancelot t1_itaiqmm wrote
ok that looks like ham chunks so you could call that "a sandwich" right
black_bass t1_italoic wrote
A breakfast muffin or as you say just a sandwich

Slang for sandwich that has nothing to do with Japan It's clearly slang, could have come from anywhere. I started saying it because of Letterkenny

A sandwich. Japanese simplified the pronunciation to "sando", and it seems people really want to make their sandwiches appear fancier by calling them "sando" too. Because, you know, Japan is popular and doing anything "the Japanese way" gives +100 clout points instantly (even if the only Japanese thing in it is freaking mayo).

Im an Aussie and if i say ‘breakfast burger’ people correct me to ‘breakfast sandwich’ i made it in my home kitchen I’m not trying to make some Japanese bastardisation, its just a bloody breakfast sandwich/burger/whatever.

Yeah, sando is a pretty natural way for Australians to shorten their words too.

Wow I can't believe you called it mayo instead of mayonnaise, are you looking for clout points?
This is a really aggressive response to a very inane trend. I was in Portland, ME recently and "sando" was more common than "sandwich" and i didn't even think about the Japanese connection.

It can be a plate of spaghetti but if you call it Japanese Reddit loves you

It's originally Japanese, but it's been adopted by foodie hipsters as a cool way to say sandwich.
