I’m curious… why watermelons with your burgers and fries? It sounds unique.

TrueCrazyMan OP t1_j8o6y15 wrote

It’s like a mini dessert after you eat your burger and fries. Plus it gives the meal a balance of salty and sweet. And it just looks cool.

Have you literally never been to a backyard BBQ?

I have been to many, just none within the US, I guess this is an American thing. Wouldn’t see this at an Aussie Barbie

Heathen_Mushroom t1_j8xkd8a wrote

Watermelon is definitely a summer season/hot weather fruit common at American barbecues, but it is not specifically a thing to have it served on the same plate at the same time. Mostly people just pick up slices and eat them immediately, the melon slice never seeing the plate.

reddit_and_forget_um t1_j8oe1cf wrote

? I have been to and hosted 100's of "backyard bbq's" and I have never seen or had a burger and watermelon on the same plate.

Seems a recipe for soggy food for no reason. Why not put/eat the watermelon after?

literaphile t1_j8p3zep wrote

How on earth would watermelon make the other food soggy? You know you're not supposed to put the watermelon on top of the other food, right?

1

Heathen_Mushroom t1_j8xk13n wrote

Of course not, but you are supposed to use a spackling trowel to smash the watermelon and release its foul juices before eating the rind, aren't you?

This comment comes off as the guy who tries to prove how un-racist he is by announcing he has like 3 black friends.

Subtle__Numb t1_j8oztlj wrote

What about a backyard bbq is black?

God, I had this roommate for a while. During COVID quarantine some of our neighbors invited him to attend their bbq down the street. Want until then I learned he was racist as shit, just didn’t know it. Not that he didn’t like black people, but they were “different” to him. I could tell by the way he told that story for the next 3 months til he moved out. What a loser

CBR85 t1_j8po97j wrote

Nothing about the bbq is black, his comment just reminded me of this. MB.

reddit_and_forget_um t1_j8pjqlp wrote

Aha, what are you even going on about? Why not just stand on a chair and shout that you're a racist? Because it's a bbq and there is watermelon, it's now a "black" bbq?

Read my comment. Literally not the point I was attempting to make.

This...what possible reason could people have to downvote?

Sqwill t1_j8ogb5o wrote

Because people who have actually had this before know that just because you have a slice of watermelon next to a burger it doesn't magically get soggy.

Rukkia t1_j8r1bo0 wrote

idk I’ve put watermelon on a plate before and there was a lot of juice leaking from it

carolathome t1_j8s23nv wrote

Not to mention the burger will only spend about 2 seconds actually on the plate next to the watermelon.

Reddit makes images less colorful until you click on them! These are the burgers I love to make, and they are so simple!

Using ground chuck, egg, oil, and seasoning (salt, pepper, garlic), I form patties and cook it with onions and bacon on a cast iron grill pan. These flavors seep into the patty and give it more flavor. After cooking the first side for a few minutes (I eyeball it), I flip and cook by adding butter and cover with the metal mixing bowl I used for the meat. This allows the inside to cook and the butter to melt and seep. Then I'll put cheese and cover again to let melt. After that, remove the patty and let sit for a minutes in a bowl covered with foil.

Plate with fries (I'll admit, the fries are just Idaho Grown frozen bag of fries) and watermelon. Place bun (right one is gluten free, the others are brioche), lettuce, burger, and then any other toppings or condiments you wish to have. Then you have yourself a nice burger. I still hope to improve on them over time!

I just wanted to share, thanks for reading!

Well I know that, totally normal for meatballs or meatloaf. I got nothing against it if you can't get some course ground beef

Can I get a few of whatever’s in that orange bottle, yo? You can keep the burgers. I will take a slice of watermelon to wash down them pills

This is good but the watermelon juice is a concern. I would put it on a separate plate or serve or after the burger and fries.

1

TrueCrazyMan OP t1_j8pa1hz wrote

They’re the precut slices for convenience, the juice doesn’t spill until you bite down on them so it’s not an issue

Just a heads up but be cautious about putting pill bottles into a picture you share online. That stuff can have identifying information!

Looks delicious by the way.

So do you let the burger get cold or the watermelon get warm?

Lecture_Good t1_j8p4471 wrote

The watermelon is nice but it's throwing me off lol. I'll have watermelon after but on a separate plate cold in the fridge.
