‘Suck’ is a bit rough. All of Africa (except Ethiopia) has only been independent for around 70 years (some even less) after colonisation. Plus most of Africa had the furthest to go to reach western standards of development, in terms of infrastructure.

It’s way beyond suck, it’s a massive clusterfuck and it’s the saddest thing that has ever happened in the world, literally (I’m sure who read thought it’s the holocaust, but Africa didn’t get that Oscar winning Spielberg movie).
Unfortunately I don’t think colonization explains all of it. Maybe warlords explain quite a lot

the cold war post independence probably adds quite a bit more

Yeah, but not really, right? Because there are colonies outside Africa that are fucked but not so fucked.

What are you on about with Spielberg 😂

Schindler’s list makes the holocaust be perceived as the worst thing that ever happened to humanity, but I question if that is really the case because we have had and still have pretty horrendous happenings. It’s the concept of ‘grievable lives’ — in our culture, some lives are more grievable than others.
