Worcester's ten-year license with Charter/Spectrum is set to expire in October. There have been/will be many public meetings to determine whether/what terms the city should renew for another ten years.
The next set of meetings focuses on local community media programming and takes place in April. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/worcester-focus-groups

Absolutely need to make an appointment online ahead of time for Spectrum. It’s the only way to get any help when you want it. I was there for 2 hours setting up a cell plan, with an appointment, and watched so many people with 5 minute problems waiting THE WHOLE TIME I was there.

My wife and I moved across town in July. We called in June to transfer our service, we were told that our account would stay the same and we just needed to move our equipment to the new apartment.
Everything worked fine for 3 weeks, until one morning we woke up and the service was off. I called and spoke to multiple people. The last of which got an earful from me when they told me they don't transfer accounts, that our account was DELETED and that the equipment was OUTDATED and needed to be REPLACED. The same equipment that was working and providing internet less than 24 hours before and they couldn't just turn it back on, because "that wasn't a thing".
There were no techs in the area, so we were without internet for more than a day. After another set of infuriating calls were finally told that if went to the Spectrum store we could get the equipment.
Then we waited 2-4 hours for basically the same set up at this location. We were told it wouldn't work without a tech, but we figured it out and it works fine. The tech that eventually came to our home spewed some nonsense about cable length and connections at the wall source (???), like I was some idiot, and they were surprised to see the internet working fine.
Absolute sham of a company. I wish we had a choice in our apartment complex.

See if you can get t-mobile 5G. Wife and I got it and will never look back.
NoPersonality5894 t1_jddcvbr wrote
Thanks we'll look into it. Is it comparable in pricing?
Virtual_Announcer t1_jdddflt wrote
$50 a month is the only option right now. They send you the unit, which is a modem/router combo and about the size of a pringles can but a little thicker.
Takes five minutes to set up and go. Just ran a speedtest, 134 down and 70 up.

I think I’m in the minority here, but the store in Millbury is way less busy. I’ve gone twice in the past couple months to swap out and return a cable box. First time- I made an appt and the store was empty (it was a weekend afternoon). Second time was Monday, about half an hour before they closed. No appointment- no wait. It was complicated because to return the cable box required a whole new plan, but that’s a separate issue.
TLDR- check out the Millbury location if your closest store has ridiculous wait time.
Trinimaninmass t1_jd7pfkh wrote
This, if you can get to it, millbury is the option.
I however won’t be visiting again since I’ve move out of Massachusetts

Besides giving me janky equipment they were good. Even let me come back 5 minutes before close because they fucked up. They had people in there they were still helping after I left too. Not sure why it took 15 minutes for them to take my not working router and give me a new one but whatever lol
chicovsky40 t1_jdiefwn wrote
meh. I've spent hours in that location for no good reason, and not by choice. 5 minute issue.

They’ve been texting me for months about having to do maintenance at my house to solve a problem.
my internet is working, no way am I going to deal with them until I have to.
Pvt_Wierzbowski t1_jd6jyfh wrote
They were doing the same to me, until my internet actually began to act up. Turns out an animal had partially chewed through the wire going to my house. Also they upgraded my speed but my modem was too old to handle it, so I got a new one during their visit to fix the wire.
GoblinBags t1_jd864i7 wrote
You should at least hear them out as to what type of problem it is. Like the other person said, it could be that they know about something that will be an issue in future.
legalpretzel t1_jd9bw26 wrote
Mine was working fine and they came out and replaced the line from the pole. Apparently those lines degrade and your speed suffers. You may not notice it until it’s an actual issue and then you’ll have to wait for them to fix it.

I didn't have a problem making an appt online and getting seen... my issue is when I switched my shit modem for a working one, they gave me another shit modem that drops net every twenty minutes.

Same story as many a telecom: Only reasonable option available in some places, thus they've a mostly captive market.
I haven't had a truly decent ISP since I first moved to the US. Seattle's Wave was wonderful, but it was also the only option for my building.

I could not believe the wait just to return equipment. When I went they made a big announcement that anybody trying to return equipment should just go to UPS because it would be faster. Like are we serious
Trinimaninmass t1_jd7p87k wrote
Haha I walked into that place like two weeks ago, no organization, no one knows who’s next and the people behind the counter work slower than a sloth. All to just return some equipment.
After 20 minutes I just said fuck it and realized there was one in millbury. Was in and out in 9 minutes
