For me personally it means I can get downtown from my house in about 25 minutes total with bike + train. Having a traffic-free way to get in and out of the city is going to be amazing. The R-Line frustrates me because it's worse than driving when there's traffic, which is most of the time.
They reopened the old train station? Or is there a new one?
It’s new and in a different location slightly to the southwest, with access from Pine Street to the south and Barton St/Weeden St to the north. The official address is 300 Pine St, Pawtucket, RI 02860.
The old station would have been too expensive to clean up and reuse, plus it sat on a curve so it wouldn’t have been a good location for new high-level platforms.
Can’t wait until they get the T running through Taunton Fall River and New Bedford

will this cause rents to go up in pawtucket?
Overall, probably not. There is a lot of redevelopment planned for the immediate area around the station, and those new units (plus existing housing in the immediate area of the station) will likely command higher rents/prices. But most of Pawtucket isn’t exactly walkable to the station, so I doubt it will have much of an impact to the city as a whole.
Curious to see how much in-state travel there is, especially with schedules timed for Boston commutes and not Providence ones.
Any info on parking?
I’m not sure but my guess is the parking lot wont be done when the station opens. And from what I’ve heard it’s not going to be a big lot anyway, because the station is designed to serve the nearby area and folks arriving by bus (plus hopefully future transit-oriented development).
Ah but you see big garages are what you need to make these work, thats why Wickford and Warwick do so well!

South Attleboro is where all the parking is. Now that Pawtucket is done, the MBTA will be starting soon on the rehab of that station.

My apartment is very close to this station and my lease renewal is in the Spring… I’m expecting quite a big jump in the rent.
Can’t wait for my car to get broken into for the 80th time /s
Stop leaving valuables in it. Problem solved.
Why the fuck did they take so long to announce this. I literally had to turn down a job offer in Pawtucket over the lack of communication

I'd feel more comfortable spending 6 months in downtown Keiv, than I would spending 6 minutes at a Pawtucket/Central Falls commuter rail station.
Sounds like my 70 year old grandmother any time I mention living in the city.
"Make sure you don't stand near any train tracks!"
Anyone who has lived in RI longer than a month knows that Pawtucket and CF are shitholes.
I don't what you want me to tell you
I grew up in South County but lived in the Providence/Pawtucket area for 8 years. In my experience, Pawtucket was full of people trying to live their lives. Were there some run down parts of the city? Sure, but that is true for almost any place.
Just because you’re afraid/ uncomfortable in the city doesn’t mean it is some dystopian hell hole out of a Deathwish movie.
Have you been to Central Falls?
Yes, hard to miss it being right next door.

You can chose not to listen to Phish. The mugging comes to you.

So all the unemployed people in the non-city of CF can travel to Boston?
So that residents of one of the densest (and poorest) areas of the state have walkable access to regional transportation that can bring them to work in Providence or Boston.
CF has a higher population density than Boston but OK
