It says a lot about your company if your employees can't afford to see a dentist.

Its says way more about our health care industry that even WITH insurance, dental everything is insanely expensive and almost always out of pocket with crazy deductibles

and Dental health insurance isn't even included in health insurance

There's a LOT of dental professionals and the ADA that have been pushing for legislation to include dental as part of health insurance because what happens in your mouth affects the rest of your HEALTH. Your eyes and teeth are not separate from the rest of your body and shouldn't be classified as so with insurance.

It cost more to get my wisdom teeth taken out than for a breast reduction :/

Jesus Christ, that's insane. Not that either of those SHOULD be expensive, but like... The less invasive procedure takes fewer supplies, less time, less recovery, less risk...

Fuuuuuck the US health care system.

FWIW, Sheetz is by far the best paying place for this type of work in my area in NW PA. Obviously, it could still be better, but it is a much better option than any other customer service type of job here

Sure, but a crown still costs $500. That's almost a full week of work, just to keep your job, assuming you only have one bad tooth.

Lmao where are you getting a crown for $500 in PA, that shit costs 1500 in my rural area

I couldn't remember what I paid years ago and wanted to underestimate so people didn't cry about that.

Morelipstick t1_j8x0ikm wrote

I just shopped around for a crown. My insurance covered half of the cost, which i was quoted between $1.4 k - $2.5 k. $500 is definitely a far underestimation, which further supports the point you are making. This system is fucked.

Prices are so high, I swear dentists roll the money in, new practices pop up like an STD these days

Orthodontist on TikTok says he graduated with 1 million in student loans. Not sure if that's normal, but it sounds like trickle down economics to me. Charge the dentist a million to get a job, they charge $1500 for crowns.

Do you...have STDs popping up like dental practices..?

they pay 15.00 an hour near me in NE PA, which is pretty much on par with others in the area and fast food joints. none of which have "smile requirements"

Not really, it's showing how bad the United States healthcare and insurance system is.

Or maybe their spending their money on other health issues, have you seen the price of insulin or other diabetes medication oh not to mention chrons and uc meds are expensive. Or maybe just maybe their putting their money in the gas tank or on a table things are definitely not the same as they used to be 🙂

Seeing as if my insulin wasn't covered by my insurance I'd be paying up to 4000 a month in meds alone. I guess you haven't realized inflation is real open your eyes and come to the table correctly smdh.

If you’re expecting your job at Sheetz to be able to help you afford heavy dental work, that’s kind of on you. It’s a job for teenagers. Not a job for somebody to have a fruitful career as a cashier.

tellmeaboutyourcat t1_j9a936i wrote

This is such a bad take. Who is going to ring up your sandwich while the teenagers are in school?

There is no such thing as a "job for teenagers". Work is work and deserves to be compensated fairly, regardless of who is doing it

AlVic40117560_ t1_j9ahr9k wrote

Wouldn’t fairly compensated be the wage in which two parties agree to? If they pay $1 an hour, nobody will do it. If they pay $100 an hour, everybody will apply for it. There’s a balance point there. Nobody is forcing anybody to take that job. Especially in the time where in now where employees are in high demand. If you want a job that pays enough for good dental coverage, go apply to those jobs instead.
