Is it just me, or did everyone have the same couch in the late 80's/early 90's?

PrestigiousAvocado21 t1_je4le1m wrote

Well in fairness there was the other 80s couch that had what I suppose you could call a tacky French Renaissance inspired design (I know I’ve seen it pop up on the sub before, so everyone here has seen it at one point) but the color scheme was exactly the same. So to whoever manufactured these couches, thanks for giving us choices!

ugh my parents had this until like 2012 lol and finally reupholstered it.

Mine was more of tacky looking brown leaves and twigs and shit. Saw em everywhere. Until I saw them nowhere lol

My aunt had that one - the material was some synthetic velvet. When you sat on it, felt soft and itchy at the same time.

kids today have no idea how exciting it was to go from having to play outside to being allowed to play a nintendo. It had to be earned.

Lol I remember those days. Once we wised you though we could pretty much rotate friends houses throughout the day so we wouldn’t have to stop playing. Sega at jimmys house, snes at frankies, PlayStation 1 at Jordan’s (but that was his older brothers so we had to be very careful ) lmao

DuncanAndFriends t1_jeev4q8 wrote

Lol this. Had a friend with a 3do, i had the sega with mk2, another had 32x with doom, another had snes, then there was the pc gamer because none of us had pcs that could play good games. Then later we had that 1 friend with the n64 and 4 controllers! Goldeneye after school

I know goddamned well I'm not the only one who had that same exact couch in someone's house

My grandparents had that couch and I had to sleep on it when we visited them...theirs was NOT a pullout, they just put sheets down on the couch to make a bed for me. Even with the sheets that upholstery fabric was scratchy as hell.

Everyone I knew had their NES on the floor. I wonder, does anyone still do that, or have we all collectively agreed that consoles need to be placed on something now?

3

Perpetualshades t1_je51sm4 wrote

I believe our TV was on the floor as well. They were massive back then. VCR went on top.

drekwithoutpolitics t1_je5ko7y wrote

I want to say that consoles with discs were where I started thinking that I shouldn’t put them on the floor… but I still might have until the PS2, I can’t remember exactly.

For me it was a combination of: me getting older (and having something to put a console in/on), consoles existing that took up less space (the PS2 could be vertical, for example), optical drives potentially being more sensitive to dust, and the consoles having more fans.

There’s more factors to it than I expected when I started writing this, haha. That generation of NES was like a tank for me too, the only thing that ever had problems were the contacts to connect to the cartridge. Everything else worked like a charm until I finally had to get rid of the thing.

Massive-Lime7193 t1_je6uljx wrote

I keep my series s on the floor still , idk kinda just feel like it’s where a console belongs
