With an attitude like that, your dialogue will never be believable. Gotta get the local dialect right.

Well one’s a grammatical issue and one’s a matter of semantics.

Oh good answer, it’s horrible here anyway (too many colloquialisms). Don’t move here. 😂

Locals everywhere just love books written by people from away who don’t even take the time to research in-person!!

Just crowdsource answers from the sub. It'll be fun. Like mad libs. You can credit r/maine in the acknowledgments and post a pdf for us.

Sorry for the snark...But like....why not just write about Arizona then?
You cant soak in that "local flavor" from a few text posts on a subreddit. Why not write about a small town in Arizona? Why do your readers the disservice of presenting a flat, inauthentic backdrop when you have the beauty of your own backyard?

I’ve always thought of Castine in a similar vein as the vague Soylent green movie memories I have from watching it as a child: it’s a beautiful summer colony utopia but there is something off about it that you can’t quite put your finger on…
I worked there for many years and continue to visit- feel free to drop a message any time.

I live in Penobscot on the northern bay of the Bagaduce River. Castine is the next town over , 7-8 miles down the road. I go there often. Ask me anything

I live in the greater Bangor area. I travel through all areas of Hancock county for work on a very regular basis and know it pretty well. I drive about 30k miles a year, most of it in the state of Maine, so if you have questions, let me know.

Have you considered living for awhile in the place you're writing about? It will make you're book so much better.
