I mean we had relatively high winds for our state and <5% are without power. That seems like it's not terrible?

Yes we left Essex to go to friends in Bloomfield Who had power and guess what…no power here!

NLCmanure t1_j1g0aen wrote

same here and we're going on 15 hours. They're still evaluating. I can evaluate for them. There's a tree leaning on the wires. Cut it down and turn on the power. Minimal damage if any. Real simple. Probably take them an hour.

Just got power back on after an outage since 5am. In the Cheshire area. Eversource as well so kinda surprising lol

Still evaluating here, too. There is a wire down. There has been an Eversource pickup truck parked next to the down wire for 11 hours. And that’s it.

Doesn’t seem super efficient to me but what do I know…

Bacon_Fisher t1_j1g6co1 wrote

Lost power around 5am. Got a prediction for repair at around 5pm, and just before that time they sent a text saying power restored... power is still out and its back to evaluating. Someone dropped the ball there.

It was nice to see though that 2 minutes in every direction is totally fine! /s

I'm in eastern CT. We lost power at 4:15 this afternoon. A small tree fell down on the road next to mine. The only updates I've gotten from Eversource have been that they're "assessing" - since 4:20. One truck came by one time and promptly left within 3 minutes of arriving. The tree is in the exact position it has been in since it fell.

3

Mikewazowskig59 t1_j1g8spo wrote

They’ve been down the road ‘working” for the last 9 hours and the restoration estimate has only gotten pushed farther back. Last hour alone it changed from 930 to 3 to noon tommorrow

4

eddie964 t1_j1gan4x wrote

The truck is almost certainly staffed by some bored HR manager who has been commandeered to guard the live wire so that some idiot doesn't step on it or drive over it before a crew can deenergize it. I used to work for an electric utility: Anyone capable of fogging a mirror could get pulled for downed-wire duty during a storm.

Evaluating = not your turn to come online yet. Going on 20 hours without power.

porklomeinnoveg t1_j1gct7z wrote

It’s be nice for all the money we pay and for the rate increase in 2 weeks if they’d be a little proactive, especially considering they dropped the ball the last time there was a storm. Lessons learned and all that.

Sweaty_Television_33 t1_j1gg2g0 wrote

Still out - to be determined. I see the limb that has been hanging on the line since 4 am. They drove by didn’t have the right equipment and haven’t been back since. I hope we can get something done that will either break Eversource’s grasp on New England.

Had a text saying power was restored around 730 this evening. That is false, so I had to resubmit a power outage, likely putting us to the back of the line.

Family & I are having a "camp out" by the wood stove, but pretty sure all the food we had prepped for the holiday weekend is going to be a total loss.

And I'm sure getting the $250 back for wasted food is like pulling teeth.

LordConnecticut t1_j1gtpfo wrote

Tell me then, why is Eversource just about bottom of the barrel when it comes to restore times compared to utilities in other states with the same number of outages. Oh yeah, because shareholder profits don’t restore power.

Same thing happened here. Power went out at around 6:20 pm after I had seen trucks all day along 201. I thought they were shifting some circuits or buses for those houses to be restored, but that was just a pipe dream. So I reported around 7pm, then within half an hour I got a call stating all was resolved. I called again and made sure I spoke to an operator to make it clear my street was down. No ETA, of course. I hope by late morning, or we'll be packing to travel to my daughter's for Yule.

You didn't ask but, I'll share...We've been out of power since 4:15-ish p.m. We just keep getting the same canned text response. It says, "There is a known outage at (your address). Est restoration is under assessment. Treat downed wires as live and dangerous." Over and over. ☹️

buried_lede t1_j1hdvt6 wrote

Because maybe it will turn out to be better performance than Isaiah? Easy to please. I don’t apologize for them, I am fully committed to major overhaul of the electric market in CT

Other kinds of utility structures do better on all counts - price, outages, accountability - on the whole.

Over 24 hours without power in Newtown. Still no estimate when it will be back. On social they say to message them for an update, but they just keep recycling their same rehearsed customer service speech

2

ArmchairDetective73 t1_j1hmglu wrote

Same. They're still "evaluating" after 15 hours. The outage was caused by a small fallen tree that's leaning on wires. There are no downed wires. I can see it from my house. Since only 8 of us in the immediate area are out of power, we are not a priority. ☹️

SecretLadyMe t1_j1hqbxr wrote

Damn, all these trees and branches downing lines makes you wonder if going back to tree trimming and line maintenance might be the answer. Nah, better to pull linemen all around the country away from their families at the holidays and way through the nose for it!

I have no power and that means no heat even though I don't have electric heat. The boiler for oil heat cannot run without electricity. So I am indeed fucked and have been since 4:15 p.m. yesterday. Fuck Eversource.

Lost it yesterday 530am - expected to be back by 215pm today. Nothing yet. Thankfully I have a wood stove for heat but I worry for my neighbors in town. Won’t be surprised if there’s a few deaths reported.

….but at least I can to look forward to even more expensive electricity next week. Yay monopolies!!

3:05 got power back. Xmas party can happen for me & mine. Hoping the rest get it back sooner than later.

2nd edit: Big thanks to the linemen getting us back up. Fuck your bosses - you guys are cool.

My Cox internet has been out since yesterday morning. They send updates every few hours saying either "we don't know when it will be resolved" or "2:59" or "7:59" (some random number of hours in the future, always ":59").

Update: still without power and eversource is still saying that they are "evaluating the outage"

merry christmas i guess

1

Tonydildos t1_j1j515v wrote

This isn’t eversources fault. There are power outages all over the northeast and finding enough electricians on Christmas weekend to do this work isn’t easy. They are mostly subcontractors working with eversource getting power on out there. I used to be a lineman and I don’t envy what those guys are going through with this weather right now.

You probably don’t understand the work involved, so instead of shitting on workers you can just be grateful for the people who’s power has already been restored :)

−2

so2017 t1_j1jeohv wrote

Nobody is shitting on workers. Everyone is justifiably shitting on a company that issues 891 million dollars in dividends, raises rates obscenely, and then routinely fails to keep the lights on.

mizzzwinn t1_j1ju1lb wrote

Here in Colebrook our only update for our outage was that they were “evaluating the outage”… we thought we were screwed for days. Then surprise the power popped back on! It seems like the system isn’t up to date with the line workers (shocking). There is hope! Sending good vibes your way. Merry Christmas to you as well!
