I don’t disagree at all, but there are people and there are words ascribed to them. Gypsy is an interesting one because, at least for myself and many others, it was usually used in a manner similar to Bedouin or nomad and was more of an indication of lifestyle than a “slur”. I’m an American, so I wasn’t aware of the more heavy racial/societal charge behind it particularly in Europe.

If I’m not mistaken, Irish traveling people do have a specific cultural name and heritage which unfortunately eludes me now. There’s a pretty mid episode of Star Trek TNG which has a …poorly represented version of one such group.

It’s cliche and obviously there’s more nuance here but…they’re called the Greatest Generation for a reason. The things those men…boys, a lot of em really, did, saved humanity as we know it. I’m not a real “patriot” or anything but WWII and the men who fought in it fill me with a very intense and awesome reverence and pride.

I personally don’t find us cold either but just a little bit less likely to strike up conversations with strangers, though I personally am a bit of a chatty Cathy. I would imagine there’s Facebook pages and I also know there’s a few Franco-American clubs though most of them aren’t exactly cultural hubs lol

Not really. We have a relatively sized Quebecois community but nobody is out conversing in French at the grocery store with the cashier. The further north you go in the state the bigger the French speaking population seems to be though that’s likely my personal experience only.

However, folks here are kind by the by if not a little cold. I can’t imagine anybody gives you a lot of crap if you speak English with an accent (most people get a kick out of “oh you speak French!”) , but I wouldn’t expect to be accommodated hardly at all with French speaking service almost anywhere. I’m sure there are individuals and businesses who have staff who speak French but it’s definitely not common.

Yup. Brandishing IMO should be handled damn near as close as actual assault/battery. If that dude had caught a bullet cause he felt like waving a gun around it would’ve been only his fault, and placing that burden on somebody else is awful.

But with the way things have been going he’ll be out in PR bail in 12 minutes and back to it.

If Lincoln hadn’t been killed and Grant could’ve continued his tour of the nation, we’d be in a very different nation right now. Grant, unfortunately, was not the same man as President that he was as General.

We didn’t crush the south after the civil war the way we needed to. We did not do enough to stamp out the ideologies and assuage the southern population - they too quickly were able to fancy themselves downtrodden rebels who would rise again rather than the sufferers of a bloody and awful conflict that stems directly from their own evil ideologies.

I will comment for the 47th time this thread that I went once near opening week, noticed a much higher volume of cops near the border, made a mental note, and didn’t go back. I’m sure it’s not that way anymore and I’m glad to hear it.

People are acting like I claimed to have seen police choppers fucking search lighting people leaving the place lmao I saw a bunch of cops there and made a mental note. Jesus.

NH cops in NH. Literally happened the one time I went, which was within two weeks of opening.

I saw a lot of cops near the weed store in near the time when the weed store opened. I don’t know why everybody is acting like I’m claiming to have seen Bigfoot.

It’s because if you schedule a call with them to come out and do clearing work they schedule it and the guys work it their regular day making straight time. When it falls down in the storm cause they didn’t do it the week before the storm, the guys go out and do the same shit after it’s already fallen + the repair that’s necessitated by not doing it and make overtime.

There’s a reason.
