Yes taxing mostly non residents (that’s the focus on the fight, mostly local politicians representing the bridge and tunnel) is much better than taxing residents even more. No problems with that take

Putting a “danger meter” on your bank account is dumb. Cancel all bail, let some rich kids rot on rikers for 12 months before they get to see a judge and tell their side of the story, then see the whole system magically get fixed

Deciding it this way is dehumanizing them

generally for NYC big money without crazy expectations once you pass the interview are Google, Meta, Amazon, there are probably more others could add

That wasn’t great TC for summer 2022, very different world now, and generally devs have a great life that this is considered on the lower end. Just as an example that’s within the range J.Crew are advertising for NYC devs, and I would categorize them (retail) as even below banking. Generally “tech in a non tech company” means less money
A Meta new grad 0 experience would be making just under $200k in NYC
400k is almost imaginary in the tech in a non tech company world

JPMG are also shit-tier in terms of tech compensation. No one is working there that could get an offer at big tech. So making $400k also hints they are either super senior or part of a very small elite quant team. Both of which a 6 months phase out would make sense

100% chance your home town has better finds than NYC.
The rent alone means just getting donations and selling them for $10 doesn’t work. If you’re looking for $100 t shirts you’re in luck
There are plenty of cheap thrift stores but it’s all just a bunch of h&m and next

The same people who are outraged Google will pay them less in Alabama have no problem paying Indians or Romanians a fraction
The more fully remote becomes palatable, the easier it becomes for companies to partially off shore work
And this isn’t even shitting on offshore workers, I’m sure there are plenty that are smarter than my coworkers

That ended more than a decade ago. Probably closer to 2 decades. Outlet stores sell stuff that’s made for outlet, many times without any connection to the original company who is licensing their logo
this article is a pretty good summary
It was always easy to identify the real leftover stuff at C21, there was usually a single rack for the entire store, stuff had extra protections on it for theft
The rest of the store was just licensed crap tourists thought was “good quality” because of the logo

Sounds like you’re self inflicting this on yourself by going to the places you feel are scams
Not all markets are like that, not all bodegas are like that. be a regular at some places and they’ll actually give you better than average treatment. And don’t tip if you don’t want to. Most people don’t tip on a cup of coffee.
leave the custom tip at restaurants, how many even have that mobile machine? Not that many (Maman is the only one I can think off

I think this is actually a great sign on how our accessible hospitals are pretty great. I would imagine a billionaire has access to all sorts of publicly known (like Sollis) and stuff the public doesn’t know about, private ER services. And yet they choose to share the hospital with the rest of the city. That’s a great sign
